United-States Warranty Letter

Got an interestig letter today in the mail from Mini USA it says : The MINI Division of BMW of North America,LLC is pleased to inform you that all model year 2004 MINI vehicles will receive an upgraded coverage under the Rust Perforation Limited Warranty. The coverage has increased from 6 years to 12 years, without mileage limitation, commencing on the date of first retail sale. So what do u make of this?? and why only 2004? and not previous years?

Well if you have a 2004 car, it makes sense they would send a specific letter to you. There are 30,000 or whatever 2004 cars, so it makes sense to customize a letter.

I guess we have to wait and see if 2002 and '03 owners get the same treatment, and what it says in the '05 booklet.

As far as why, Yeah I do wonder myself. Maybe its just a competetive/marketing thing? I wonder what the rust warranty is on comprable cars. In any event, it at least shows they're confident, there's tons of 12 year old cars running around with some pretty serious rust issues.

Magic 8-ball was correct. All be in awe of Magic 8 ball.

My June build got a sticker on the back cover on one of the manuals that states that.

Car is only good as the driver.

Exclamation MINI Model Year 2004 Vehicles Extended Rust Perforation Warranty

Just received the following notification in the mail:

"The MINI division of BMW of North America, LLC is pleased to inform you that all 2004 model year vehicles will receive upgraded coverage under the Rust Perforation Limited Warranty. The coverage has increased from 6 years to 12 years without mileage limitation commencing on the date of first retail saleor the date the vehicle is first placed in service as a demonstrator or company vehicle, whichever is earlier

Please note that this increased coverage supercedes all references throughout this booklet to the lesser 6 year coverage."

Got that same letter today...

Was / Is there a rust-through problem that is now being addressed?

Is this a North American thing only, or is this worldwide?

Guess I'll have to keep my car for another 11 years to see if it ever does rust...

I got this letter over a month ago. Never thought twice about it, I don't really care about rust warranty. How bout doubling our FULL warranty?
