Question Trade or don't trade?

In relation to the thread "Value of year old mini" do any of u guys think it is worth it trading in your existing cooper for a cooper S???

i mean we or me or wotever will have to fork out an extra 4-5 grand to cover the cost, oh and don't forget insurance

i know its not very sensible spending that much just for an extra bit of power but would u do it??? well im thinking

(we can only get older with time- not younger )

Good point.
When I went to my dealer at first I had nothing but an "S" in mind. Then I drove the Cooper and fell in love with it.
I went home did a bit of maths and realised that my existing car would depreciate faster than the Cooper in the time I will be waiting for an "S", so I thought what the hell, get a Cooper and I did.
I'm not regretting the descision at all

However with all these delays in colours, options etc, I am considering holding out until next year for my "S".
At least I got something to keep me entertained

MINI, RX8 and MX5 - Done those............. It's now TTime

In the US, I'd have to say yes, definitely, if you can buy the Cooper near MSRP. Like Martin L I went in to my dealer to buy a Cooper with the intention of selling it for an S after driving it for a year. In a very lucky stroke, she was able to put me directly in a pre-spec S instead, but that was after we'd already discussed the economics of my original plan. They're selling both the the Cooper & S at MSRP plus a very modest $300 dealer prep fee. This is in an atmosphere of $1500+ mandatory dealer packages, or outright markups of $4000+. So she thought the private sale of a year-old Cooper bought from them but sold in a price-inflated market brought on by other dealers, would probably return the full MSRP less tax & license, even if demand had cooled somewhat. She specifically said I should NOT consider trading it in. It would have no trouble selling and there was no sense giving a dealer a profit margin on an easy sale instead of applying full value of the Cooper against a new S from them.

Re: Re: Trade or don't trade?

so has anybody had any more quotes on trade in values???

i've just read the review in CAR magazine and they were just saying how much they love the cooper S, but then they say its just basically a cooper or a one with more power, so is it really worth it?

i guess i'll just have to book a test drive when the time comes

ooh i just remembered, that magazine said they only got 20 mpg on the on board computer!!! jezzzuzzz!

Logic and common sense do not enter into the equation.

You already have a very silly, impractical car!

If you can afford it; do it and enjoy.
