| Peoples Republic Of Cork | Only in Ireland !!!!!!!! I have just heard all MINIs (and indeed all new cars ) imported into Ireland from Sept 1 must have speedos in KM not MPH as previously , we have had an interesting senario here with the past few years where our distances were in KM and our speed limits in MPH (only in Ireland !!!!!!!!!!!! ) I guess it was time to get it sorted . Offline | Too bad that the rest of the world can't seem to get with the metric program. We were supposed to do this in the USA many years ago. It never happened. Seems to have something to do with teaching an OLD DOG new tricks! If everyone spoke in the same units of measurement the world would be an easier place to live. Heaven forbid that we could have some kind of standardization, after all, it just wouldn't make sense... I guess I'm just confused. Maybe in my next lifetime? Tom 02 EB/B MCS |

Offline | The metric system is the work of the devil. My car gets 40 rods to the hoghead and that's the way I likes it. -Abe Simpson ![]() Magic 8-ball was correct. All be in awe of Magic 8 ball. |

| Peoples Republic Of Cork | Because we are 'great Europeans ' and have the correct shaped Bananas , we can't sell eggs in a market , our farmers get paid to do nothing with good land and get paid to reclaim bad land , etc etc BUT we can't source our motor insurance in EU and if we open a bank A/C in any EU country we are locked up for holding an ' overseas account ' and we have the most expensive cars in EU because of a tax (VRT) that is totally against the spirit of EU , but we are Good Europeans . now it might sound like I am anti EU, not the case I think if the ideals of the 'free market' were implemented in full it would be a wonderful organisation, oh yes and sort the bueraucy and make things simple .now thats off my chest I can think about why I have to pay € 30000 for a MINI Cooper with Chilli and a few other bits and other Europeans pay about € 7000 less . OK time to calm down . Gerard |

Offline | These changeovers always have a comical phase. For ages in the UK I can ask for some "2 bee 4" wood which means 2 inches by 4 inches but I can only buy it in metric lengths. I personally think the USA should go metric just as soon as they have grasped the english language .![]() Some people are like a Slinky ........ not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you shove them down the stairs |

| Awwww %%%% it! | I think they're going to change the side of the road you drive on too, but didn't want to cause too much chaos in one hit so from 1st Jan all lorries will switch sides while cars remain the same , then a week later cars will change too ............ ![]() |
