Offline | MINI Adventure to the Isle Of Wight Hi Guys, I'm going to the Isle Of Wight this sunday (29th August) for a MINI adventure and was just wondering if anyone can give me some advice on where to go and what to do for the day. As we're going on a Sunday will everywhere be open? Thanks in advance. Richard. ![]() |

Offline | The Isle de Blanc.....I love it there!! If you are getting the ferry into Yarmouth there is a lovely little town right there.....all very boaty! As the island is small you can do lots...Cowes, Blackgang Chine, Alum Bay, Osbourne house, Carisbrooke Castle, Brading (a Roman settlement), St Katherines lighthouse (hope that names right!),......where shall I stop?! It's just lovely there, so I suggest you just drive and stop off where you like. I like the unplanned day, if plans are made I find that nothing ever gets done! Well, not on one of my "days out" at least!! Minnie xx |

Offline | Go to the George Hotel in Yarmouth for Lunch, it's excellent. Then I would take a drive around the whole coast of the Island, it's an idea I want to do when I get my MINI next month. I did it on my moped many years ago and the roads are simply awesome, such fantastic scenery. Go to Snows, have a poke and a prod at what cars they have, then go home after a fantastic days driving on the Island. I WANT TO GO!!!![]() |

Offline | Back in my teenage years, me and my dad decided to go to the IOW on our pushbikes. We caught the ferry from Portsmouth to Ryde, and then rode from there to Brading, Sandown, Shanklin, Godshill, Newport and back to Ryde......boy were our legs knackered after that! Avoid Shanklin at the weekends, as it gets dead busy. Sandown is a lot quieter and you get a better beach too! Agree with the comments on Yarmouth......IMHO it's the best place on the island. Blackgang Chine is great if you've got children.....but again it gets very busy. Cowes hasn't been mentioned, again this is a great place if you're into boats....good for cooked breakfasts, esp the cafe nr the entrance to the ferry......used to go when the Cowes Classic / Cowes Torquay, powerboat race was on, as my brother used to work on one of the Class 1 boats (Twin Jaguar V12s, both twin-turbocharged 1700 hp & 120mph!) Been to the IOW a lot, as I used to live on the south coast between Worthing & Brighton, so used to go at least once every summer......I always think there's something special when you have to go on a ferry to get there. ENJOY! Robert |
