Do The Cops Play Snooker?

Heard lots of tales about the cops stopping cars according to their colour (assuming they have identified an offence - eg speeding). One theory is that they work through the snooker colours - does anyone have experience of this eg do CR (aggressive?) minis suffer more than DS (well-behaved?)?

Can I fade discreetly into the background with DS?

Any MINI policemen out there?

Cheers , 0007

In short, yes. I think this was a sort of self-perpetuating urban myth, in that it started as just a story, but the idea kind of caught on. It’s another thing in the favour of Black-Eye Purple. There’s a few other games out there too……

In the States it is a statistical fact the red cars get slightly more speeding tickets than other colors, question is, is it the cops that target red cars or people that are more prone to speed choose red cars. When I owned a red car I eventually go my insurance cancelled for too many tickets......

WARNING-Objects in rear view mirror have a tendency to disappear!

Yes I am a Mini Policeman and I think you'll find it is a myth, well it certainly is in my Force.

If there are any other Mini PC's out there who disagree with me then please do.

Chilli Red / velvet Red = 1 point
Liquid Yellow / sienna Gold = 2 points
British Racing Green / Silk Green = 3 points
Any very dirty Mini = 4 points
Electric blue / Hyper blue / Indi Blue / Candy blue= 5 points
Pink (I remember a story about a lady having her mini painted pink to match her handbag) = 6 points
Cosmos Black / Jet Black = 7 points.

Pepper White = foul

Dark silver and Silver seem to escape as do others, but certainly a viable game, You could even think about roofs (white roof = foul of that colour).

No copper has got me for 5 points yet But in order to do that I would have to be speeding first !

I think statistically red is just more noticeable than other auto colors. Hence why fire trucks are painted bright red or Yellow. They get seen.

I'm kinda in the job, and it's something that used to happen a long long time ago.

As soon as the powers that be got to hear about it, it stopped.

I'm not a mini policeman. But no the cops dont target any particular color. there isnt a bias. Also like BrantV pointed out. A brightly colored card ( Reds.. Ticketme Yellows, etc) have a tendency to be seen more. Your local Police officer whos cruising down the street even though looking for any traffic infingement. Will spot and take notice of a brightly colored car wizzing through traffic more than a (hate to say it) Dull color. Thats just human nature. In a world of mundane dull colored cars. a Bright color sticks out like a sore thumb and will be seen from greater distance. Which will be admired or looked at more closely because of this.

Hope this helps some
Have fun, Be safe and Keep an eye out for the Blue light special in the rear view mirror

As per my earlier reply, Yes this does/did happen. Been there, played the game, worn the T-shirt etc. It wasn’t limited to pulls for speeding or other offences though, vehicle stops aren’t like stop and searches of people where you need a suspicion to stop them – vehicles you can just stop anyway in order to check roadworthiness, tax etc etc.

That being said, in my experience it was a short lived fad as it got boring very quickly after the novelty of the first couple of games (especially looking for pinks).

The majority of constables I've had the pleasure of conversing with seemed to be special as well

Not all are but there is an increasing trend towards ego's, superiority status, and bullying amongst Britains police forces.... then when you really need them, they're off somewhere else bullying someone else.

As for Snooker, I'm in a silver MINI so don't come into the Snooker colour range however when I had a black focus I was targeted for spot checks quite a lot.. I'm worth 7 points !

There were 3 of the blue crew at the brum motorshow pawing over some fine looking machines at the MINI stand.

As per my earlier posts, this may have started as an urban myth, but it certainly ended up a reality. Think about it - if you were a policeman on traffic and you heard about this, don't you just think you'd give it a go? That's not to say that everyone did it or that it was ever a regular thing.

Some other games were who could come up with the best anagram of all the number plates stopped in a day, or for the Carol Vorderman types, trying to get the number bit of each registration as close as possible to the number of the last vehicle stopped on the previous day using basic maths. I think that's a bit clearer if I give a made up example:

Last vehicle stopped on previous day: Y560 PLT, so "target" number = 560

Today stopped:

T43 XLV
R274 HTG
V126 LDR
X384 TRE
S847 ERB

So you've got to get 43, 274, 126, 384 and 847 to make as close to 560 as you can, e.g.

43*274/126-384+847 = 556.51

Sad, I know, and doesn't really work with the new style registrations.

And anyway I don't think anyone ever actually played these games for more than a couple of days before the novelty wore off, and you've normally got a few more pressing issues to worry about

I would be interesting to know what authority you have used to make these comments. You seem to think that the Police spend all day stopping people speeding and need to pass the time by playing stupid, childish games.

Speeding takes up a very small part of the day with most of the day dealing with the after effects of those speeders who think they can drive.

Unless you can prove that these 'games' are genuine I think you should keep your comments to yourself.

Hmmm... how about 12 years on the job including almost 8 on traffic?
