Question Can it be… A DISCOUNT???

I’ve just changed my MCS spec again (added xenons), and my dealer’s just sent me the revised paperwork to sign. However, right at the end of the spec it now says:

Code: NEWDISC
Description: Special Allowance
Price: -85.11
VAT: C
VAT amount: -14.89
Total: -100.00

Yes, that’s minus £100!

Now it definitely didn’t say this on my old paperwork, and I don’t want to ring my dealer in case they say “oh yes, sorry, our mistake, we’ll add that £100 back on immediately”. But have I actually just been given a £100 discount without even asking? Does anyone know what NEWDISC / Special Allowance actually means?

Maybe they were just trying to distract me from the fact that the "Estimated Delivery Date" on the paperwork has slipped another week to 15th October

Bargain-Maybe they giving you Free TLC?

Do all the other figure/options add up correctly?

I think it just a code to cover dealer discounts. I had a £120 discount when I had my cooper 18 months ago - that was free TLC and £20 off bonnet stripes but I did have to haggle for the £20

Guess it could be free TLC - Whatever it is though, it's a bit of a nice surprise getting something for nothing without even asking! Especially as they haven't even told me about it. I just hope the old "E&OE" doesn't come into play...

the words "DISCOUNT" and "BMW" don't quite fit together....

....think is prob TLC or a simple mistake (prop the latter knowing BMW!!)

I got free TLC after asking for some money off. So did three of my friends - dealer was happy to discount the £100 every time. Later I got £200 for recommending a friend (although I think this was a special offer unique to my dealership).

Had special allowance on my invoice too, but was told by the dealer not to let anyone know how much, lets just say it was quite a bit more than £100- though.

I only got this by obtaining a written quote from another dealer who offer my firm a corporate discount and then getting my local dealer to match the discount if they wanted a sale. The sales guy had to call his boss to get permission but at the end of the day they couldn't do much other than price match if they wanted a sale

E&OE means jack. (errors and ommisions exempt for those of you wondering). If a mistake is made on a document they have to honour it still. They just put that on so people thing that they can't do anything about errors or mistakes. Trust me, my company uses E&OE all the time, but if we ever did make a mistake, like under charged someone on an invoice, and they chased it up, they would find that we can't change things. If you offer something for sale you must sell it at the written price agreed. You cannot change the price afterwards. The only thing they could do is withdraw the car from sale and that has to be for a certain period of time, cant remember how long.

Er.'fraid that is not correct. The price on an item is an invitation to trade. If a retailer incorrectly prices an item and realises it at the point of sale they are perfectly within their rights to withdraw it from sale. That's the situation under English law anyway(see Misleading Prices - Consumer Protection Act 1987). If a retailer incorrectly advertises an item for sale and then refuses to honour the price you are within your rights to report them to the Trading Standards people who may investigate it and take further action if they feel their was a deliberate attempt to mislead.

You can withdraw something from sale, that is correct. Incidently, there is a period that you must keep the item off the market before you can reprice it too, I can't remember how long. BUT, when you have entered into a sale ie, given an invoice, you have entered a contract, you cannot change the price after that.....

Not on a new Cooper S. Put it this way, if you work for BMW (as my brother does) you can get staff discount on any car in the BMW range.... APART from the Cooper S

i got a £100 discount but this was agreed before they invoiced me. i'd be surprised if theyve knocked £100 off without telling you & if its a mistake, they'll spot it eventually
