Mile of Minis

Has anybody heard of the record breaking attempt to raise funds for a childrens charity? I've just read an article in my local freebie newspaper, "The Oxford Star". The "Italian Job touring event" are hoping that mini owners, (doesn't say old or new minis) from across the country will take part in the "Mile of Minis" attempt at the Heritage Motor Centre in Gaydon, Warwickshire. It's being held on Sunday 3rd October in aid of NCH. Event organiser is Freddie St George. Each car taking part is asked to raise £30 to boost the event's fundraising. They need 509 to form a mile. To reserve a place call 01273 418100 to reserve a place.

Anybody else got info on this event??

I'm signed up to do the Italian Job Touring Event in 2005 and got a flyer from them inviting me to the Mile of Mini's. The invite says Mini's of all shapes, sizes and ages are welcome, and I know that MINIs are eligible for the Italian Job.

Unfortunately I'm otherwise engaged that weekend (wedding anniversary duties!) so I won't be able to make it

I'm interested in people's views on mixing minis and MINIs at this type of event (see my thread here. I know from a recent experience on a charity run that MINIs aren't always welcome alongside the classics, which is a shame because to me the idea is to have fun with a unique car (new and old) and benefit charity at the same time.

Hi - I'm in Oxfordshire :-) Getting my Mini soon (next week I hope). Didn't see the Oxford Star article - would be cool to see a mile of Minis tho!

It's a good idea for a fundraising event - perhaps around Plant Oxford?

The Italian Job Mile of MINIs is mainly for Classic Minis, it takes place at the Heritage Motor Center in Gaydon.

At the Mizen to Malin trip in April (four day tour from one end of Ireland to the other), out of 80 or so Mini's, there were only about 10 new Minis. We were all very welcome and had a fantastic time together.

And, btw, we raised $27,000 for charity.

Its a repeat of last years event, both New MINI and Classic took part. Its a good day out , plenty of trade stands and cars for sale as well as some beautiful and not so beautiful examples on display, plus Russ Swift of course I expect.

I'm always up for it
