Smile 16" Runflat pucture thankyou MINI

Yesterday morning on the way to the dealer (to get the airbag system checked as light had come on) my tyre pressure warning light came on. How convenient that I was already heading to the dealership
I thought it may be a fault (as I do with all the lights now ) and continued on my way. Later I was informed that I had somehow got a nail in my tyre and the tyre had gone flat. This should be a sad thread, but it happened in a MINI Cooper with 16" runflats so it's not
In my old car (Citroen Saxo VTR) the story would have gone like this...

On my way to the dealer this morning I suffered a puncture in the pouring rain, I had to change it at the side of the road in the pouring rain, arrived late at the dealership (uninsured as my insurance for the courtesy was set to kick in at 8.30) and was late for work and had to sit there in wet clothes with frreezing hands for ages

Thanks MINI for the runflats
P.S. the tyre was repairable and the repair cost £14 including VAT.

Currently driving: Silver Volkswagen Lupo GTi, 6 speed, 125bhp

Just curious.

Yay! That makes me a lot happier! I had hear about new tires for runflats costing serous £££ but if you can easily have them repaired by your dealer (if not a major problem) then I'm happy.

Nothing wrong with repaired tyres from reputable outlets, unless the damage is borderline or the tyre is of a speed rating which should not be repaired.

I remember a Vauxhall Belmont (Opel Kadett)hire car in Corfu. It had dents/scratches on every panel, smashed windscreen, heater stuck full on (in 35C sunshine), 4 bald tyres, and bulges in the sidewalls of every tyre! Still it was the fastest thing on the island!

the tyre had only done 4000 miles and was on the rear lots of use left in it yet I'm sure the tyre repairer would not have done it unless they thought it was good/safe. Also, they're runflats, so the worst that could happen would be it would lose it's pressure again.

Posted this on another thread as well, but it seems quite important so here goes, This reply is from Goodyear.

"Dear Simon,
Thank you for your Email with regards to the repair of Goodyear EMT tyres.
The answer is “yes” they can be repaired as long as they comply with the British standard repair legislation which i assume you already know ??
If i can be of any further assistance then please give me a shout

Regards
Paul Bould
Goodyear Technical Uk"

Seems to clear that one up.

Yeh its true GoodYears can be repaired. However, it's not so clear if the same applies to other makes of tyres.
