Unhappy Someone took my S chrome grille from the front wing - is this widespread?

Got home from work the other day and noticed a hole with a wire dangling out on the passenger's side wing - some light-fingered person had managed to remove the entire S chrome side grille and indicator repeater, fortunately without any damage to the paintwork, only slight bending of the brackets that hold it in place.

I thought at first that it might be some sort of bling jewellery fetishist (like the kind who used to pinch VW grille badges). However on visiting my dealer for a replacement (£45 bill!) I was told that they rarely sell these parts, but had had a woman in the previous day who had lost hers from the driver's side (mine was the passenger side).

Makes me think it was a local One or Cooper owner looking to upgrade - seems rather sad.

Has anyone else had this depressing experience?

Whoah! Dude, that sucks. They're relatively easy to remove as I recall, so you'll can't really tell if it's hooligan kids or Allah-forbid another MINI owner

I think you're right as the dealer told me you have to be able to produce the VIN from an S to be able to buy one legitimately from them

You can buy many unusual Mini parts on ebay these days (someone was selling the alluminium bumper assembly the other day....

All brand new apparently..... think maybe someone in the factory is taking home some stock?

Yeah why is that?? I've bought a few things from BMW parts and asked for a price on other parts and they've always asked for my vin number. Why is that? Anywone know? Do they add it to their records so they can keep a complete history on the car???

the S parts cannot be obtained by non S owners. I recently had to order the exhaust trim from the cooper s for a mate with a ONE where he's put a massive exhaust on the middle. i had to give my dealer my mums vin number from her S to let them order it. I don't think they care it's just a BMW policy thing.

Seems a bit steep on the price from your dealer. A few months ago I had to replace a side grille and indicator/bulb assembly, and I was quoted £23. Admittedly it was for black side grille from Cooper, but I'm sure the chrome S ones were only an extra fiver.

It was the same with Rover my mate used to be good freinds with a parts manager and he got round all that he had bits off a 75 and 200 fitted on his Mini. Allthough in 8 years I dont think I bought anything from Rover not after they wanted £120 for the radio front panel.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune Worksworth its not nice when thigs like that happen.

I recently had to replace one of my side indicators complete with JCW badging at a cost of 45 just for the bloody badge after that i decided to get the clear side repeaters anyway I think it makes my mini look even better. Hope whoever took them rots in hell!

I think I love my car a bit too much.......

"S" Side repeaters

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...2173 949&rd=1

Now then, I live in Bromley and have an S so does the guy down the road. He lost his side repeaters (chrome and lights) about 4 weeks ago, near and off side. I have had the repeater (light only taken from my near side and they had a go at getting the chrome. Not suggesting anything but these are not the sort of things you get as "an unwanted present".

If you're serious, get the Vendor's address from the buyer...
