The law over here in N.Zealand seems to be that it's compulsory to use them all day every day if you are an insecure, mustachioed male who drives a garishly coulored late model Holden or Ford V8 with 20 inch rims. Purely for safety reasons of course. Last edited by speedynz; Sep 17th, 2004 at 01:21 AM. |

US law varies by state. In California, front fog lights are not legal for everyday use in clear conditions... But people all over this city use them and nobody seems to care about enforcing it. Maybe they just tack on a fine if they ticket you for something else and you were running them at the time... Rear fogs aren't legal either in normal conditions. I think they're a little more strict on that one, but as I said, it varies by state.

Bumble Hill, and out through Yarramalong and even the OPH on the drive day mornings smurf ![]() Ive never seen fog so thick as it was that weekend when Gadget got back from China! Cool stuff. ![]() Some say he loves gaming and that he also loves house work..... All we know is, he's called The ScottyB!

It'd be a giant pain to track down the laws for each state, but its pretty irrelevant anyway. Given plenty of cars (Especially Pontiacs) that have the fog light switch where it can always be on, so they either go on with the car, or go on when you turn on the lights, there's so many people who just drive with them on, its horrible. The reason its also irrelevant, is because common sense laws, like that seatbelt use is required at least by the driver in every state, is only followed by around 70% of the driving public. With an obvious safety issue being ignored, which police regularly issue tickets for, minor things like fog lights in clear weather aren't really looked at. Just how things work on this side of the pond I guess.... Magic 8-ball was correct. All be in awe of Magic 8 ball.

it is legal to use them in Turkey in daylight, also there was a campaign that v started by Bridgestone to use fog or headlights in daylight, however penalty is 30EUR if u use foglights at night and there is no heavy rain or fog...

survey held by government or special company(I cann't remember clearly, sorry)that daytime running lights(fogs or headlights) decrease 3% of accidents, increasing the visibility of cars on the roads. For Bridgestone it was free(costless)way to advertise their brand on radio,tv etc. and also by supporting the campaign they tried to say how they concerned about human life..."+ credit"for consumers.

Me neither, never know that it is illegal to switch on the foglight/headlight in the sunny day time, although I never do that. So, what is the problem it is so serious that the government needs to make a law to prohibit people from switching on the foglight in the day time? MCS 05' - Delivered 09/23/04

I don't think that dipped headlights are illegal in daytime anywhere. Volvo drivers would be in deep trouble. On the other hand, there have been some very strange laws, which don't seem to have be enacted to solve any problem. In England, having a bicycle light brighter than 2.4 W (if halogen) was illegal. Overbright bicycle lights has never been a problem. No one was ever prosecuted for it. All the law did was stop manufacturers offering good bicycle lights.
