| MINI2 Master | Most Jags lately have been disappointing anyways, some obviously just tarted up Ford Tauruses. Slow death for the brand started a long time ago. Harry MINI Cooper Cabrio: now the car with go cart handling really feels like an open go cart! Offline | hear it on the radio today too i know. heard on the radio at lunchtime an interview with the guy responsible for Ford motorsport. Apparently "formula one Team Jaguar" is now for sale. anyone fancy it? perhaps we could get a consortium from MINI2 Also the team manager of the "WRC Ford rally team" said they wont be racing next season. Other concerns will be placed upon teams outside of the "ford spectrum" by the stopping of the "cosworth" brand engine. From now on Ford will no longer be subsidising the supply of engines. bad knews i think... |

Offline | That is sad newsFolks over on this side of the pond who love British cars hate to hear that. It seems like some of the Jaguars, like the X Type are not really true Jaguars. They cost the same as a BMW or a Mercedes, but they fall short mechanically and dont have that uniqueness that had made Jaguars so desireble. The Jaguar F1 team has always been my favorite underdog team. If the Jaguar F1 car was not fast, it always looked good trying! |

| MINI2 Regular | Once a Jaguar always a Jaguar The X-Type Jaguar is a great car, I recently drove one, along with an SR and an XJR at Summit Point Raceway. The X-Type with all time 4 wheel drive is truly amazing and beats the best of what other makers can produce. To say it's "not a true Jag" is plain Poppycock! ![]() |

Offline | You are probably right, it is probably a good car, but unfortunately, many folks like HarryIndiblue see them as tarted up Ford Taurus's. Ford is going to have to change this perception. Two of my friends looked at X-types, one ended up with an Audi A4 and the other with a BMW 3 Series. From thier comments, Ford did something wrong with the X-Type. |

Offline | Didn't see this thread before I started this http://www.mini2.com/forum/showthread.php?t=71479 Great shame since I guess the product planners saw MINI buyers as potential X Type buyers of the future - but even someone like me who loves the Jag history could not see myself in an X type. Why? Well the styling didn't help - talk about staid - it looked like an odd boil-down on an XJ6 ( not good for the young market ) and the feeling that it was a Mondeo wearing a party frock didn't help. A freind bought one and was pleased with it - but it didn't feel very special inside despite the leather and wood - it felt like a top of the range Ford... A real shame ![]() BRGreenie ... --- ... |

Offline | Oh Hat, luv that concept car. What I've long thought is they should bring back the XK130. Put all new mechanicals in the thing (heck steal everythign from the Ford Focus for all I care) and as close to match body as the old 130, along with nice leather and a real wood dash. That I would buy, for the same reason I bought a MINI - looks great and would be very fun. |

Offline | Looks like you summed up what they should be doing perfectly Les! But my cynical side thinks that the next Jag will be a re badged Lincoln SUV built in Detroit ( maybe they recon they want to cover the sporty SUV market segment!!! BRGreenie ... --- ... |

Offline | Not making Jags at Browns Lane is sad news and completely unexpected to me. I hope TVR aren't moving to new premises outside Moscow. Dumping F1 is 2 years too late, what sort of publicity do you get as also rans amongst the also rans? Better late than never though. Big mistake by Ford IMHO opinion is using so much from the Mondeo in the X-type. It doesn't matter that the end product is different there is enough truth for the knockers to claim it's a Ford to hurt image which is a big selling point in this territory. Then when they started selling front wheel drive Jags that was an insult to Jaguar engineering. I drove an X-type at their launch and thought it wasn't refined or comfortable enough to claim much Jaguar DNA in it. The engine may look good on paper but was totally outclassed by the rival BMW 3 litre six. It was a nice car despite that though but just not a Jag. Still without Ford maybe this closure of the production line would have come sooner and the XJ and XK8 are still classic Jags. If they had made the F-type, even more beautiful in the flesh than that very good picture, they could have named their price. ![]() Some people are like a Slinky ........ not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you shove them down the stairs |
