Local VW dealer managed to obtain 2 Coopers. Sold one at $26k, the other is offered at $27k. These are equipped with leather, sports option, cold weather. Says he got them from Canada. Also see some Ebay examples selling for $4-5k over MSRP.
Makes you think a bit about selling or keeping. I have an S due in July, and boy is the tempation there. To ensure I stay an owner, I have been visiting the MINI frequently just to remind myself how cool it will be to own one.
I've been watching the eBay auctions. The first batch of cars last month, all 5 sp. Coopers and the first S did sell for good premiums. However, this month very few have made reserve and sold (or perhaps were sold later), so I don't think it's an easy profit especially if you are a private seller and have state sales tax to recoup. That could change as more cars are seen on the street and there is more publicity like the recent Autoweek and Car & Driver articles. There may be a frenzy this summer as last seen when the PT Cruiser first came out.
Thats nothing my local Mercedes dealer is selling 3 mini cooper base models with no options except for one with a moonroof for $30,000 each luckily they have been sitting there for a while with no buyers except the one with the moonroof is sold cause I dont see it anymore.
"Common sense is the most uncommon thing in the world."
Even with the healthy premiums that people are supposedly receiving , would people really sell without having the car for at least a few months and enjoying the experience.....
We can all put a value on a piece of metal .....
but how much is the whole "Mini" experience (the driving , people admiring , the driving etc) worth?
this could open up a very interesting philosophical debate on chance and probability, groovy...... or could perhaps become a topic for "Dear Dierdre" in The Sun
