Offline | Hi all, I currently run an old BMW 535i which is great in all respects except the fact that it does about 18mpg on average (around town its so scary I try not to think about it). Any way, its got to go and I fancy something a litle more sporty (although he BM is good for at least 150mph!) but mostly its got to be cheaper to run. My initial choice was a VW Corrado. Small, sporty, very quick but maybe expensive to run. My other choice was a new MINI Cooper, but that would cost about £13000 rather than the £6000 or so that I had planned on a Corrado. On the other hand I would get air con and 3 years free servicing. The insurance would be a lot less too. Help make up my mind. Frank |

Offline | giving you can afford the extra, go for the MINI it puts a smile on your face every time you go out in it!! failing that the corrado is a superb car and (along with the MINI) one of the best front wheel drive chasis ever.... I looked at a VR6 Storm but I bourght the MINI instead it does all the corrado can and that little bit more..... Choose MINI.... |

| MINI2 Master | Just take a MINI Cooper for a test drive. If you are able to resist buying/ordering one the same week you try one then you'll want to try something else. One test drive was enough for me. The handling and braking puts to shame everything else I've driven. Harry MINI Cooper Cabrio: now the car with go cart handling really feels like an open go cart! | MINI2 Senior | Indeed a test drive will change your mind forever. Driving a MINI really doesn't compare to anything else(fir that price). Like mentioned numerous times in this forum: "It'll put a big grin on your face'. ![]() ![]() ![]() Daver ======================================= ---There can be only ONE--- ---Trust no ONE--- |

Offline | Frank/Armand? I hope you weren't expecting unbaised advice here? (!) The appeal to me is its individuality in a world of homogenised cars. I just love that whacky interior and the driving experience. It's small; it's impractical; it has a toytown boot. Your heart's gotta rule your head if you want one. AND; it won't go like a Corrado. An 'S' might? |

Offline | Well first of all Skinner, I don't think you can afford it on your salary. Perhaps Carny will let you drive his.But seriously, if you need to be sold on this car it's probably not for you. Most of us have fallen head-over-heels in love and can't imagine *not* wanting one. |

Offline | My advice is do what I did! I saw the Mini and thought gret car, much differant to the usual Boy racer cars like the Saxo's VTR/S's. Then I went onto Mini2 and found out even more about this ace car! Anyway then I arranged some test drives, first in a Mini One, which was great I loved it, very easy to drive and felt like a big safe car but still sporty. Then went for a test drive in a Cooper Chilli (what I had already decided I was going to have) and I was grinning for hours! Then stopped grinning as I knew I had to get one, as I loved it! Then I met up with CMT of this website who said he'd take me for a proper test drive as a passenger! Thats when I started knew I needed one! Its an ace car! Not the most practical car in the world, and not the quickest (0-60 that is) but it is SOOOOO rewarding to drive. You can be a right ham fisted driver but it will make you feel like Schumacher....well Russ Swift anyway! I say if you can get a proper drive of a Mini without the dealer, then take it for a right thrashing, you won't b dissapointed! ![]() |

| MINI2 Master | My dealer didn't go with me and said not to bother downshifting from 5th to 4th on the freeway - he said to go 5th to 3rd and keep it up around 6000RPMs!!! Only problem is after that thrashing test drive I have to baby my own car through the 1200mile breakin... Oh well, it will be over soon and even halfway through it I can feel the engine opening up, even at the lower revs under 4500RPM.Harry MINI Cooper Cabrio: now the car with go cart handling really feels like an open go cart!
