Black Residue on the Windshield!!!!!

Hello everyone,

We are getting slammed by rain in the SW part of the USA! Enough whining, I could easily get flamed by our good friends in the Midwest and Northeast parts of the US… As I was driving around in the rain, I noticed various black marks on my windshield. These areas are within the wiper motion area if you will! They came off easily, but still troubling that they appeared in the first place. This is my first car to do that!

Has anyone experienced this? Is this from dirt/grime from the road/rain water, or is this from the windshield wipers? Can’t figure it out, it is no biggy, just a question that I am opening up to the forum!

I'm thinking diesel exhaust residue....been tailgaiting trucks lately?

At this time of year, living in Sweden, there's so much junk on the road - salt, gravel, oil etc - that traffic in front is always spraying everyone behind with it My windscreen is a permanent mess and I go through litres of windscreen cleaner liquid

I don't think so, typically, I stay away from them (pass them immediately) due to the number of rocks they kick up!

I have a new 05 and had the same problem with the wipers...
the black lines are coming from the wipers...
when I wash the car, I wash the wipers and now the lines
get less everytime it rains!
