Offline | Reliability I heard that the 2005 mini's are specifically having reliability and/or electrical issues. A mechanic friend told me, and as I'm buying a mini in the next couple weeks I wonder if anyone knows what he was referring to? I could use all of your knowledge - I don't want to get bitten on my first car purchase with a lemon! Thanks DH |

Offline | I can only speak from my brief experience, but after 30 days and 1500 miles I have yet to experience any problems with my '05 MC. (knocks on wood-like laminate desk material) I did have the fuel door stick closed once in sub-zero temperatures, but it has worked fine in similar situations since so I'm chocking up as a fluke. I can't remember seeing too many complaints on the forums regarding the '05s, either. Bear in mind that very few people have any serious miles on the new models yet so past performance may or may not be a predictor of future reliability. |

Offline | 2005 cooper. 6000 miles, perfect. i never heard anything bad about the 2005s or even the 2004s for that matter. i'm not really sure what you are talking about. this information does not sound reliable. i would get a new mechanic if i were you. |

Offline | Did you read the 2005 problem thread? The only problems anyone has had that hasn't been fixed easily are some buzzing issues, and that's only a handful of people compared to all the 2005s on here. Beyond that, everyone's 2005, (mine included, which is almost to 9,000 miles in 5 months) has done very well. And trust me, I had a 2002 MC, I know what unreliable is like. Magic 8-ball was correct. All be in awe of Magic 8 ball. |

Offline | Since it was... your mechanic friend that said the '05 Mini was having specific reliability issues maybe you could ask him/her to be more specific so we can answer as to whether or not we've experienced those issues. Some folks consider an annoying rattle/squeak an issue(me included). For others it would have to be much more serious(eg: stalling). If your friend can't come up with any then I'd say they were a bit full of it. *shrug* Personally with under 1000 miles on my '05 I don't feel qualified, but I have had zero problems and it's been single digits(f) or less for the past two weeks. ![]() |

Offline | I had an 2005 MCS that only lasted 168 miles before it died. Major electrical problems (amongst other things as well). Needless to say, I no longer have the car. However, I do have another 2005 MCS and while it only has a couple of hundred miles on it, it's doing fine so far (knock on wood). |

Offline | My 05 MCS was delivered in Aug and now has almost 6000 miles on the clock. The only problem I've experienced was the snow storm that hit Philly yesterday, and I don't think I can fault MINI for that. |

| Damned | Generally speaking.... If you Mod the Engine ...say with Airbox, then your Ok if the G/Box Siezes, But with a 15% Pulley Beware , while everything else remains under warranty. Similarly, If you Mod the Rear Lights, then your OK with everything else except the Rear Lights. Some Dealers may try and get out of fixing anything if they see an aftermarket (Non-MINI) Air Freshener, but Most are Fine. ![]() ![]() In da Wud |
