Offline | BMW will continue to expand production at the Mini's plant in Oxford I never heard the rumor of a US-made Mini but I guess you never know what could happen 5 years from now if sales of BMW's Z4 continue to sink (as stated in full article) and the Euro contines to rise as the US dollar drops or stays flat. from http://www.autoweek.com/news.cms?newsId=101666 "U.S. sales of the Mini were virtually flat in 2004, but global sales continue to rise. Speaking in Detroit this month, BMW Chairman Helmut Panke dismissed the notion of producing the Mini in the United States. He said BMW will continue to expand production at the Mini's plant in Oxford, England" Fight for the smallest minority- "The Individual". |

Offline | It seems unfair to call sales flat for the MINI, when the only way to increase sales would be to make and import more. Especially on the West coast, there are still waiting lists. ![]() WARNING-Objects in rear view mirror have a tendency to disappear! 9/20 build '03 MCS IB/W/W, everything but the NAV & Sunroof |

Offline | Yes, sales are flat because BMW only authorized a small number of dealers to sell an allocated number of cars in the USA. They can sell more here easily if they want to. |

Offline | I agree, the only way sales are flat in the US is that MINI UK does not have the capacity to allocate anymore cars to the US. If they could give us 10,000 more cars last year I'm sure they would have quickly found a home. Fight for the smallest minority- "The Individual". |

Offline | So this news is saying there's no news. We've already had a lot of news of expansion at Oxford, if you ever get to visit the site you can see there's potential to expand "inwardly", although expanding out might be difficult as it's a lot of green land around there. There's an element of control in the supply too, you don't want to flood the market, but you want to keep it selling. It's a tight balancing act, and I think they're getting it just about right at the moment. |

Offline | I have to admit that I did not care for the wait for the MINI. But now after having one, it does not seem that bad. In fact, now I know why it is in place and agree with it. I agree with Paul in that they are very close to having it just right. Part of the fun with owning a MINI (in the US), is that the market is not flooded with them (as other cars are). Not to mention it helps with all of the other stuff: resale value, depreciation etc etc. |
