Good Trade In Prices - Which Garages???

Guys and grils, I need your help! I am selling my MC to get my MCS, which arrives in 4 weeks. I have had my car on Autotrader for a week and as yet not had a single phone call or email regarding it (except for 100's of canvassers, great!). Whilst I didn't expect it to sell instantly, I did expect some interest! Anyway am now looking for a contingency in case I can't sell it. I know the garage I am buying my MCS from offer terrible p/ex prices so was hoping those of you who are on second/third etc. mini's could maybe offer me some advice on which dealerships and garages have offered you good prices on your cars.

Any advice would be willingly received!!!!

I was in the same position as you. Put my year old MC in Autotrader for £12k and had no interest. In the end I had to tout it round the dealers and managed to get £11250 for it. The dealer then advertised it for £13250 and it sold with a couple of weeks....go figure....

Mind you, the price I got from the dealer was £1000 more than I was offered by those traders who put ads in the back of certain car magazines saying they are desperate to buy MINIs. All I got from them was "well you know mate, there is a massive oversupply of MINIs now, they are not fashionable anymore, you can walk into any MINI showroom and buy one straightaway with a discount - look I'll do you a favour and give you £10300 for it.."
Bleedin' chancers the lot of them.

"Do try to keep up Nigel!"

Is the price you're asking realistic? It might be worth checking those comparible to see if they sell easily etc, also is it obviously 'modified' if so then it would probably help to return it to original spec. whats the difference between what you want for the car and what the dealer is offering? you may find a dealer who is willing to sell on your behalf for a straight commission?

Thanks guys! I don't think what I want for my MC is unreasonable - on autotrader there are 2002 models on for more than mine and with higher iles, I know this doesn't mean that they are selling though. No mods on my car, just a well specc'd low mileage Cooper in good condition.

Oh well still got 4 weeks to sell it!

Jules,

See my advice in the enclosed thread.

http://www.mini2.com/forum/general-discussion/82085-2nd-hand-values.html

It would be worth getting a genuine Glass's valuation on your car and checking whether or not the dealer is ripping you off with his trade in offer. Trade in values are always going to be lower than retail but it's worth a check. If he is taking the p~ss then take the valuation print out with you and use it to negotiate a better deal based on the Glass's valuation. The Glass guide is the Motor trade's bible for trade in and retail values.

My best price so far has been offered by a London garage. They seem to generally offer better prices - can only assume they turn over more second hand cars hence lower margins.
