Smile Putting new tax disk in old chrome tax disk holder - is it hard?!

Hello... I've just forked out £160 for the privilege of using the beautiful, smooth, empty Great British roads for another year.... I have a lovely new tax disk to put in my tax disk holder tonight - however I'm not sure I'll be able to change it over...

Has anyone else got one of these holders? Can you replace disk without dismantling entire holder? I haven't got spare sticky pads and have probably lost my allen key too!

Is it tricky?!

If it's the same as mine then it'll be quite easy. There should be a series of about 5 small allen bolts around the perimiter of the back of the disc holder.

Undo and remove the bolt from all BUT ONE!! Which you should just loosen slightly to let the lid swing round.

Replace the tax disc and clear plastic cover then swing the lid round closed again. Tighten the remaining bolt and then screw in the others

I just replaced my tax for another year today as well for my cooper. It was £125, whereas yours was £160. Is this solely because you have a cooper S?

I got a spare allen key if you want it - just don't take the thing off the window, the sticky pads become instantly useless and you can't buy spares - found this out when I ripped my holder off the window of my crashed car.....

Let me know if you want it...

MINI Tax Holder

I got one of those MINI tax holders off e-bay...

Pretty much the only "mod" I have done on my car at present (if you don't include buying new mats...)

I got an anodised black one, to match my black MCS. Pics of others would be appreciated...

(Sorry, don't mean to hijack the thread, just interested in what others have.)

As above - I have lost 2 screws behind my dash

I do have 3 Allen Keys, and 2 sets of Sticky Pads (Spares Pack) - get them in Halfords (on a good day)

Shall I pop over and do it for you?

Are you really up to the service that Intrepid needs Grandad?

I'll have the pads off you if I can't find spares in Halfods though....

I spent ages trying to replace my tax disc in one of these
Removed all the screws and then kept trying to get the disc to stay in place while re-fitting screws

Had to remove tax disc today (copy needed for transfer of number plate)
Realised if I removed top 3 and just loosened bottom 2 it would be a piece of cake to do......and it was

Will be purchasing new one from ebay later

just a quick note in that i also bought one and had my car registration number etched into the back... so now i've got a personalised tax disc holder - a cheaper alternative to a personalised plate - and it wont get me undesired attention from da rozzers round where i live..

having had a metal jobbie in my last car (civic) and now my s, here are my excellent observartions, based on hard earned experience :

1. put a bit of A4 paper or some such like undernearth the TDH, that way, if screws DO fall out, they won't disappear forever.

2. If you want to get your TD lined up so that it's straight (ok, it's a bit anal, but if you're doing it, you have to do it right! ), take all the screws out (otherwise you'll get into all sorts of contortions trying to hold TDH back, line up TD, take TDH back off when TD slips down, put TDH upreallyquicklysoitdoesntslip (are you getting the problem here yet!?).

sooo. where was I? yep, all scews out, and a teeny weeny bit of sellotape on the TD to stick it to the TDH, replace back, replace screws, go for a drive on the roads you've now paid for

Happy, happy, happy.

PS, get me, I'm a mini senior now I MUST be important

Intrepid....

wouldn't it just have been easier to buy a new Mini, get 12 months road tax thrown in, and get them to fit a new TDH?
