Offline | ANY reports of engine failure yet DUE TO MILEAGE? i am putting alot of miles on my cooper. alot more than i intended. set to put about 30,000 - 35,000 miles a year. which is fine. but it brings me to the question. have there been ANY reports of engine failure yet DUE TO MILEAGE. any at all. this motor seems very sound and tough. but im looking at possibly 200,000 + before im done with it. i know there are some minis over 100,000 now. i know nobody can say "yes you will get 200,000 miles" but if there has been no engines that have failed due to high mileage then that is a promising indicator that 200,000 might not be a problem for the tritec. i also intend to keep up with oil changes and use premium shell petrol. |

Offline | its just interesting that us first round of mini owners have no clue how these engines will hold up over time. they seem to be doing very well. but anything built by chrysler worries me. especially the engine. so i was wondering if ANYBODY heard of these engines having problems due to milage yet. |

Offline | MINIs have existed since 2002. Its 2005. That's 3 years, so to get over 200,000 you would need to have driven over 65,000 miles a year, or twice what you're worried about - the few people with over 100K have been doing fine, which is all the data anyone has at the moment. And I'm not sure why you're worried about a Daimler Chrysler engine particularly, they're not Honda, but there's plenty of engines they've designed that keep going endlessly, though some don't. In my experience, more people tend to cause failures by not following oil change intervals and not using good fuel like you've said you plan to do. Personally, and from all of the faults + fixes forum info, I'd worry about the electronics and plenty of other things before the engine. Magic 8-ball was correct. All be in awe of Magic 8 ball. |

Offline | Ok... It is NOT "built" by... ....Chrysler !!! It is an initial Chrysler design that has been extensively reworked, refined, and tweaked by BMW. No longer "a Chrysler product". It has the heart of a BMW now. So you can rest assured that longevity has been factored favorably into the equation. That is all.... ![]() It is not how fast you go, but how you go. |
