Mine at last!

Just back from Mini of Peabody where I picked up my new PS/B MCS.

It's been sitting on their lot for almost a week, but I wasn't able to get it because:

1. It took amazingly long for necessary checks to clear (you'd think most banks would have heard of Fidelity Investments) to get the money,

-- and --

2. We spent Tuesday night, all day Wednesday, and most of Thursday at Boston's Logan International Airport as captives of Virgin Atlantic airlines, which managed to turn a simple flight delay for weather problems into a major customer-relations crisis. Finally, we gave up on trying to get to the UK for our planned six nights in London (plus a tour of the Mini plant in Oxford).

The consolation for losing our vacation was getting the Mini today instead of next week, when we would have been back from England.

Now if the snow would just let up, I might be able to drive it the way it's supposed to be driven.

Will try to attach some pictures of today's blessed event.

Thanks to this site and the online Mini community for helping me bear the wait.

Congratulations. From that angle, the photo on the drive, it actually makes the MINI look pretty big!

Sorry about the problems you had getting to London. I hope getting the MINI early makes up for it! Enjoy it.

United-States She's a beaut!...

Congrats. Got my mini at Peabody also. What did you think of them? I was pretty happy with their attitude. Had mine since the 1st week in Nov. and am just about to hit that magical mileage of 1250. Looking forward to reving it up a notch.

I was surprised too. Several weeks before my new Mini arrived, I happened to find one parked side-by-side with my old blue Subaru wagon. I took a shot from the Mini side expecting to be impressed by how much of the blue Subaru I could see. Turned out to be less impressive than I thought.

The Mini isn't actually a terribly low car (ground to roof) so it really isn't dwarfed heightwise by non-SUVs. And it is quite wide, which may account for the comparison in the shot you mention.

Now if the snow (much heavier this morning than in the driveway photo) would just quit so I could learn to drive the new baby.

I was impressed. Especially compared to the heavy doses of 'tude that many prospective buyers are encountering at other dealers nationwide. And of course, the other Boston-area dealer (he who shall not be named) has a pretty awful reputation.

My sales rep. at Peabody (they don't seem to use the "Motoring Advisor" term) was Steve McAteer. He was very pleasant, fun to talk to (knows a lot of sports car lore going almost as far back as my supply of trivia), and very up-front about what they could and could not do. I think he took me on five or six test drives in various models (actually, Hrasz did one of those) before I made my final decision.

I paid list price and really didn't try seriously to bargain them down. After all, the only place I could have turned would have been HC downtown, so I couldn't exactly threaten to walk out.

Peabody claims to be the highest volume dealer in the US, and their lot is always full of freshly-delivered rolling stock. So I guess treating the customer right is paying off. Now if some airlines I know of could just figure this out...
