Window conundrum

Why does my MC window slide down a little when the door opens? An answer to my question would be most appreciated.

Good question. That's how it's designed. The windows on your MINI have no frames...just glass...so to seat the glass properly in the weatherstripping the window dips down when you open the door and dips up when you close it, thus sealing your door/window from the elements. Not sure is this is a BMW-specific thing though, but I've heard other BMWs are designed this way, too.

Tip: when you're cleaning the inside glass of your MINI, it's best to finish up by sitting in the car, closing the door, then cleaning. That way you won't miss that 1/4" of glass at the bottom where the window dips.

United-States I guess reading...

the owners manual is not a requirement for you otherwise you'd know that the window drops down the 1/2" or so when you open so that when you close the door you won't get the dreaded decompression/overcompression(that thing that happens in a semi-airtight car when you close the windows and your ears pop) thing to your ears. It goes up after you close the door tight, but won't go up if it's not closed all the way.

Reading Is Fundamental and I'm a firm believer that a person not be allowed to own a car till they've read and understood the owners manual(yes I've made similar mistakes and feel really stupid when I ask easily answered questions

Just imagine if you were President and had all that power... if people are made to feel stupid every time they ask a question then pretty soon they will stop asking and pretty soon after that they will stop learning, then they will become introverted and so it goes on. The teachers I remember from school are the ones that taught not the ones that humiliated.

Why do I have to pull the door handle twice to open the door when the engine is still running? No don't answer that, why should I find that out from a fun and interesting online mini forum when I can trot off on my own and immerse myself in a dull owners manual? hey has anyone got a copy of the manual in German then I could have even more fun reading it?

Ps Only joking.

Wow I hope you open a car dealership, sounds like you'll need an exam before you can take the car away

I believe the window also drops to stop the glass potentially catching on the plastic trim above it. Don't quote me though, i've never looked at that part of the manual

Wow, I feel really stoooopid now, because I just went and looked (for the 3rd time) at the online manual (PDF format) that I downloaded (until my Mini arrives) and for the life of me, I can't find that anywhere.
Please tell me what page that's on so I can see where I flew right by it.

And yes, Huked on Fonix reely werked for me.

p.s. If that was humor, I feel like a dork for falling for it and actually re-reading that AGAIN!
I have to admit, it 's really dry reading after the 1st time.

Yep. It wont close proplerly (or open for that matter) without the drop. As some have learnt when it doesn't work as it should you can damage the glass, the plastic, or both!

What would happen if the car had a flat battery? Or isn't this window dropping done electriically. (Still waiting for my car to arrive so haven't experienced this..

Please don't be put off by "friendly" Fred3... There are plenty of other folks here who apparently did "get lucky" last night, that will provide support and good vibes. You did get your answer, after all.

I was stunned by the negativity myself...

Well I hope you noticed that I waded to the front of the battleline to defend you and as I haven't yet had time to read my manual, I still need an explanation for why i pull my door handles twice!

Keep popping on to Mini2 to say hello, it's a great site.
