Offline | I took my MINI to the Auto-Wash this afternoon! While I was there I noticed these cars waiting for their owners to pick them up. I think that this photo is good evidence to show that silver cars are really popular around the world!!! ![]() |

Offline | A bud and I were talking about this the other day. Apparently certain colors have become associated with countries, e.g. silver for Germany (BMW=MINI), blue for France, red for Italy (Ferrari) and BRG for the UK. Dunno about the other countries tho' |

Offline | This goes back to the days of motor racing before sponsorship when cars ran in their country colours. So for example the Lotuses & BRMs were green, Ferraris & Maseratis were red, Auto Unions silver and so on. The only other country colour that comes to mind is white for Japan ![]() Global Moderator ![]() |

Offline | Good resale value colour. Because it is not one that you love or hate (its smart but not too exciting as to reduce your potential buyers) Thats why its really popular. plus all the keep clean stuff as well, thats the only reason I havn't got black, because its a nightmare to keep looking smart when you live where i do. | 05 MCS BEP | Looks like silver it the "IN" color right now. I must admit, the MINI does look rather stunning in silver (both versions). I wanted to get mine in dark silver but saw quite a few on the road already. I also liked the shade of red our MINIs come in. The folks at MINI did a really good job coming up with the various colors. I was a bit disappointed that certain models were limited to certain colors though. |

Offline | They appear to remain cleaner longer as dirt and dust dont show up well on this color unless you get real close, also the color is very forgiving when it comes swirl marks and other assorted minor scratches and paint blemishes caused by people who dont know how to wash and wax a car.If you have ever owned a black car and tried to keep it spotless you would really appreciate a silver or grey color... |

Offline | National Racing Colors <DIVERSION> Here's a neat little reproduction of a 1960 article from Road & Track listing national racing colors: http://www.teammiata.com/libs/race_colors.htm Note that Germany's color is white. The association with silver came from Mercedes GP cars from the 30's - they were left in unpainted natual aluminum to save weight - or so the story goes. They were from then on known as the Silver Arrows. <\DIVERSION> My last car was silver - seemed like a blah color with all the grey skies we get here in Seattle. John 05 Cooper S 73 Alfa Romeo GTV |
