2005 keys with a 2002 Cooper?

Despite the need to change ignition keys, would a 2005 remote work with a 2002 cooper? My dealer also mentioned to me that the 05 keys can roll up windows and open the boot. Is that true as well?

The 2005 cooper can unlock the boot seperately from having to unlock the entire car, as the old keys had to, the windows rolling up though sounds fishy... I believe because BMW does not have a sensor in the windows to stop them from rolling up if something/someone were to get in their way while closing, it is illegal and/or against some sort of regulations to have a remote window closing mechanism...

Don't know about the 05' key working with an older model. My 05' key will unlock the boot and roll down windows, but not up.

I'm almost certain that you can't use the 05 key in an earlier car.

The 05 key has a rechargable battery. It is recharged when the key is in the ignition switch. Since the 02-04 models didn't come with this key, I think it's a sure bet that the recharging mechanism is not on-board either.

You might get one and get it to work, but how would you recharge it?

Oh my god, that's hot! I was thinking about replacing my battery and the idea of a rechargable battery in the key dawned on me. I wish my car could roll up the windows because I always leave the sun roof open.

That and the 05 looks so cool.

I have the 04 one and its does recharge itself, its not a new 05 feature.
