Offline | I'm now just weeks away from picking up our new MINI for a cross-country drive home and wanted to ask the NAM community for any advice, tips and tricks. Protection: I'm having a clear bra installed when I return home, but wanted to have some protection for the drive home. Is Colgan the way to go or are there other options that need considering. Break In: Has anyone else broken in their new MINI by driving cross country? The route I've planned takes advantage of as many winding two-lane roads as possible, however, there's several long stretches of interstate highways that simply can't be avoided. Additional Equipment/Gear: I'm planning to put together an emergency kit to pack along with my iPod, radar detector, cell phone, maps, AAA membership and thermoelectric cooler. Anything missing? Thanks in advance for any advice you're willing to pass along! Miles |

Offline | We made two 600mile trips in the first 45 days of getting the car. The break-in period was a bit strange on the interstate as you end up yo-yoing to keep the speed varied. I think some of our fellow drivers were a bit worried about us as we would move up, then back, then up, then back... We found it worked pretty well to just spend time in different lanes as we needed to change speed. Time to go fast, slide over to the left. Time to have lower rpms for a while, slide in _way_ behind a big truck. The mp3 capability of the stereo helped worlds as we are the only couple left in the world without an iPod. Other essentials for us include a bag of those little baby carrots (the perfect road food) and a travel pillow for the passenger. And a digital camera to take pictures through the sunroof, out the windows, of the car at every rest stop, etc ![]() -Eric |

Offline | Money for snacks, an IPOD full of tunes, (You DID get the IPOD adapter?). Just drive with traffic, no way if you just keep up you will overtax the car. If you are on a long stretch, vary speed a little, and you will have a well run in car when you get home. Wish I could drive along with you, perfect time of year for a road trip. ![]() ![]() |
