BMW CD Changer compatibility???

Hi guys, just been wandering whether an oem BMW CD Changer (3 and 6 pins) will fit a pre-wired Mini Cooper? I've been told by the dealer that MINI CD Changer is different to the BMW CD Chnager (different product number etc.). Are Mini wires plugs the same 3 and 6 pins? Can anyone shed light on this?

Hmm, dunno about the pin sizes e.t.c. but I took my CD player out of my 3 series when I traded in for my cooper, it worked a treat and in fact it actually worked better...this was due to the fact that the unit was installed wrongly in the beemer (the BMW cd changer has a horizontal or vertical mount setting).

Since installing on the mini I have not had a cd "jump", however on the 3 series it jumped every time I hit the brakes. D'Oh!

Nice one, so how did u mount the BMW changer in your Mini's boot (different brackets for the 2 changers...)? Is your changer vertically mounted in the right hand side of the boot (exposed)?

p.s. where in Glasgow r u from? I lived Glasgow for a decade and loved it!

I got the mini changer mount from the dealer and simply connected the pre wired cable to the unit. The cd changer is exposed and sitting on the right hand side of the boot. No drilling was required as all the correct holes were already there.

I think you'll find all the part numbers available in previous posts...in fact I may have submitted the information myself, I'll have a trawl on my previous posts and if I find something I shall post.

North of Glasgow, I am in Bishopbriggs unless I am taking advantage of the wonderful twisty country roads around the West Coast of Scotland.

Part numbers are:

Bolts(X3) 45.8.236.618 - £ 0.36 ex VAT
CD Bracket(X1) 12.6.912.286 - £10.68 ex VAT
Screws(X4) 10.0.141.191 - £ 0.48 ex VAT

Prices may have gone up slightly since I bought them. You should however verify the compatibility of your unit...I believe certain models (sony) require an adaptor but you should find plenty of posts on the subject if your delve into the mini2 search engine.

cheers mate have fun.
