Auto / Manual

Our intranet site runs a daily poll. As if the debates on here aren't enough, today's poll was...

Poll Results

Do you prefer to drive a car with an automatic or manual transmission?

Automatic (268)
56.2%
Manual (209)
43.8%

Number of Respondents: 477

We're an Amercian company, so most of those questioned will be stateside - which explains the result being COMPLETELY WRONG.*

Cooper CVT

I picked up my Mini Cooper with Steptronic gearbox on Saturday. I have never driven a car with Steptronic before and I am absolutely loving it. I love my gadgets and the Steptronic combined with the Sports Drive on the Cooper CVT had me hooked from the first drive.
I must admit a month ago I would never imagine I would be driving a car with a steptronic box.

Agreed, unless you were crippled somehow. Me thinks the advent of the automatic tranny has a lot to do with the non-aggressive sort of tailgater. No gearing to hold them back on downhills, so they just ride your bumper.

Me? I can't imagine getting a small, agile car like a Mini with anything other than a manual. Then again, we live in free countries so what the heck.

England

After driving auto's for 10 years I definitely prefer a manual . Sooo much more driving pleasure to be had . For sure auto's are nice when you're stuck in heavy traffic but that's about the only "pro" they get from me...

Maybe I meant crippled by big city living..? In my little town we have rush minute weekdays from 4:59 till 5:00pm. There might be as many as a dozen cars in front of me! Can't imagine having a million around me!

Well, I am disabled and can drive stick, but prefer not to. And rather than "crippled", I prefer the much more politically correct term....gimp. Thank you.

Tom

The word crippled here in England was a word used many years ago to describe a person with a disabilty.....now considered to be very non PC and offensive to many.

Tom B......I am sorry but I have no idea what gimp means perhaps you would like to elaborate?

Minnie,
"Gimp" is American slang for a disabled person. Very politically incorrect. Just like me. Sorry, please excuse my sense of humor. You'll get used to it

Tom

I thought that Walter Brennan was the poster child for "Gimp"?

Yeah, especially that "geyser" reference. I think you meant, "geezer".
If you did indeed mean "geyser", then it is indeed best left unsaid.
