Yes! I had it happen to me in my Cooper. I was hit so hard by a "flying" rock that it felt like a missle hitting my car or something. My husband blamed it on following too closely behind trucks, which I don't do. The thing must have fallen from them sky. Maybe yours did as well. It's raining rocks ! Luckily (knock on simulated wood grain), it hasn't happend to my relatively new S (3000 miles so far). When it does, I'm sure I won't hear the end of it.

I got the 3M Clear Bra installed the two days after I got my car (enough time to install my aero kit front bumper cover) and am very happy I did. No chips through the clear bra yet. Our first mini was red and did not have a stone chip on it after 12K Our new Black eyed purple is a complete mess after that milage, the dealers are not interested saying its the water based paints they have to use. We have never had a car that is so badly chipped, which I must say is spoling the ownership some what. We wouldnt try to sell it with a paint job, which has never happened in 40 years of buying and selling cars! Marlin

I've been lucky enough to have had all of my stone chips removed: A rather radical approach - someone crashed into my car at work so I've had a new bonnet and bumper! The chaps at the bodyshop told me that they use exactly the same quality paint, process and finish on a MINI as a 7-series. Perhaps the problem just lies in the bull-nosed bonnet shape? The other thing that was interesting was the courtesy-car. A new (5,000 mile) purple and white Cooper. When I inspected the car with an engineer before signing the hire form, we found stone chips and scratches on every panel apart from the panels directly behind the front wheels with the air vents!

You need to get Clear bra FAST!!!! Its not really just MINI paint I'm afraid... but all paint now is getting cheaper and softer... car manufactures are being more "enviormental friendly" Maybe BMW uses EVEN softer paint... that I dont know but car pain in general has been softer it seems.

Someone at my job.. ..told me that it can be the tyres of cars, newer tyres got slips in them , a special pattern also maybe that catch small rocks and then release them again making stone chips on cars. If this is true the manufactures of tyres should do some work on this. I HATE STONE CHIPS!

small i dont care I just hate when they kick up big ones... costed me $400 because of that! and cars do have softer paint now. my moms old 12 year old car w/out clear bar gets a beating everyday just like any other new car out there and theres really not that much paint chips.
