Well, I may have rushed to judgment over the referee's ejection of Joan Pinto in Portugal's loss to Korea. The latest information is that the referee claimed that Pinto punched him in the ribs. Touching the referee is a "no-no" and so Fernando Couto, the Portuguese captain (who pleaded with the ref by cupping the refs' cheeks in his hands) may also be in trouble.

Pinto may be banned from play in the 2004 Euro championships (which Portugal hosts) and Couto may see some punishment too. In a way, I'm glad that FIFA is finally taking a tougher stand and decide to fine "divers" L875 in future.

But let's wait for the FIFA report before we speculate more on this.
