Funny smell

Wonder if this has happened to any of you guys.
When reving hard i get a very funny smell from the vents, at first i thought it was my clutch as being a big guy i tend to rest my foot lightly on the pedal (without actually pressing), but even when the foot is away from the pedal the smell is still there. I have a long drive to Portugal in 7 weeks and as I will be following my old man in his Accord 2.2 ictdi i will need to keep the revs high just to keep up. (I have a One by the way)
Has this sort of thing happened to anyone here? If so what was it?
Any help will be most appreciated.
Regards all

My opinion:
If the car is new, it may be oil/lubricants that are there to protect the engine seals in its first few miles. This should go with time.

Echo Rakey's request for further info....

Also, do not "i tend to rest my foot lightly on the pedal (without actually pressing)" as even the slightest of contact with the pedal will cause very high premature wear on the clutch. I am not sure of the cost of a replacement clutch, but got a feeling it will be expensive.

There is a perfectly good footrest on the left for just this purpose.

Hi there,
Many thanks for your help.
The car is roughly one and half years old and has done 33K.
The smell is hard to describe but I think it is like a rubbery almost overheating metal kinda smell, it usually happens around the 4K revs.
Once again your help is most appreciated.
