| MINI2 Newbie | What do you get in gas mileage? I'm considering a trade from a Jeep to a MINI and wondered what some of you got in gas mileage? I do mostly city driving to and from work and the occasionally trip out of town. Any comments? TY, JuneBug ![]() |

Offline | O2 MCS gets 27-31 MPG at a steady 76MPH, it all depends on which way the wind is blowing. You can expect 21-23 MPG around town. The airconditioner doesn't seem to make more than a 2 MPG difference. Fuel is 91 premium from the cheapest place I can find. Tom 02 EB/B MCS |

Offline | My '03 MCS has gotten 24-28 mpg over 21k miles of driving. My commute is not quite 2 miles so when I have a lot of these short trips where the car doesn't even get to warm up, the mpg's will be on the lower end. When I put a fair amount of freeway mileage on a tank, the mpg's will be on the higher end. I have a base S with almost no options added, so no added weight, and I rarely find myself needing the AC. I have an interesting comparison: I have been driving a loaner '05 MC with the CVT for over 1800 miles the past two months and gotten 23-24 mpg - less than my MCS. I don't know how much the automatic contributes to this surprisingly lower mileage. I think it's more due to the MC being underpowered compared to my MCS, so I find myself stomping on the gas a lot more. If you're more patient behind slow drivers, you may get better mileage! |

Offline | Worst has been around 25mpg (US) in all-city driving. Best has been just over 34 on the road (though it could be better if I slowed down...). Usually average around 27 doing a mix, and the a/c is nearly always on since we live in Atlanta... -Eric |

| MINI2 Newbie | Thanks. I was also wondering if there is a significant difference between an automatic and a 5/6-speed? I was considering a Cooper S with the 5-speed and read that you get a little bit more gas per mile. Also, have you had any problems with recalls or anything like that. JuneBug ![]() *I am in the US |

Offline | I think the S only comes in a 6 speed. 03 Cooper with 5 speed = 31 to 33 mpg. Normal driving. 1 recall in 2 years so far. Something to do with fuel control. .........but I could be wrong. |

Offline | Wow! You guys are getting great mileage! I'm getting between 24-26 mpg (combo city/freeway driving) in my 05 S. I got about the same in my 04 Cooper, but it decreased significantly with the AC on. Not so much with the S. Maybe I shouldn't be driving so damn fast??? ![]() |

Offline | I have a 05 Mini Cooper (5-speed manual). Recently I drove 255 miles between two petrol stations averaging around 40mph to 60mph along a mixture of country roads and through town centres (no motorway driving). My onboard computer was reporting 52.3mpg, and the petrol gauge said I had used less than half a tank of fuel. When I actually measured the fuel consumption after filling, I worked out that I had averaged exactly 50mpg (calculated to US gallons to be 41.5mpg). I have to admit I was driving extremely gently - but I was pleased it was possible to get close to the advertised figures. I even had a passenger with luggage, with both windows open. No A/C helped though. I have also managed 7mpg (instantaneous figure from the computer) accelerating full throttle in 2nd gear uphill. On average I get about 35mpg (again this is a UK gallon measure). |

Offline | 2004 MCS Commute mileage, daily grind: 29-30 mpg normally. 27 if I'm late.... Highway cruise, 65 mph: 33-34 mpg. Highway cruise, moving with traffic 75+ mph: 30-31 mpg. Day at the race track, all out go, kamikaze style: probably about 12 mpg? But I didn't bother to measure--who cares?! (okay sloppy thinking, I'll keep track next time). |

Offline | Usually 30 mpg and change, pretty consistently in daily driving, occasional highway stints at 33-34 mpg. Highest ever I remember was like 34.6. Been down to 27 in kamikaze mode once or twice. |

Offline | Most of my driving at the moment is at about 60-70mph on the motorway, and I have been getting about 32mpg from my MCS. Sounds pretty good compared to most people! Most it's cost me to fill was £42 ![]() ![]() |
