The MINI is the most fun you can have in the snow with your skis off! Total hoot, handles well, very controllable, just watch out when it gets to be 6 inches deep--you start to plow.

Have fun passing SUVs!

I've experienced one Swedish Winter so far in my MINI and no complaints. Sure-footed and safe all the time We have to switch to Winter tyres and these were perfect for the road conditions here.

United-States Couple of Nor'easters...

and it went just fine with the 43 mile one way commute. That's for snow. Ice is a different matter. Without studs ice is ice. Once you loose traction(even in a Hummer) you lose.

Best to spec DSC if you are worried......
It is able to vary braking to individual wheels, based on which way you are pointing the steering wheel.

Idiotproof to a point, it will get you out of all but the worst situation (where physics takes over), and may save your (or anothers') life one day. I have relied on it once or twice!

Also, for those all out, hair raising times... you can switch it off....

I have a 2003 Cooper w/ 15" AS tires (tyres) and DSC (highly reccommended).
It gets through the ice and snow of New England winters like a little mountain goat!

You ran through a whole winter on your Performance run-flats?? Wow... I wouldn't do that at all. Heck, I don't even like the little bit of traction I lose when it rains, let alone when it snows, gets slushy, or there's lots of ice on the road.

But anyway, back to topic... MINI's do just fine in the winter. If you're looking for the tops in safety, make sure you get DSC, and switch out to a decent set of winter tires when the time comes.

How do winter tires help? I'm in Michigan, and the snow is only bad a few days during the year (ie, deep). Are they slightly taller?

And you say 6" deep or you plow - heh, how do you handle the deeper snow issue? Not drive?

Got a HB/B on order! Should be here mid Aug the latest!

Winter tires are made of a much softer rubber compound...you'll stick to the road as well as Spiderman clings to walls.
