So Close ...

Greetings everyone.

Long time lurker, first time poster.
I'm currently in the process of getting my first MINI.
Sadly, it's a used one, but only slightly.
It's a black with the white roof, and bonnet stripes to match.
It's a 2004 with only 9,000 miles(thank goodness)
Just a few questions:
1.From this dealer obviously they are offering no warranty.
Now since its only a year old and 9,000 miles is it in any way covered by the factory warranty, or is the warranty only given to the first owner/buyer of the vehicle?
2. They are asking $20,995(us) but i'm going to get it fora good bit less because of a connection at said dealership. Just from looking the resale on these beloved vehicles are quite high. I originally argued with him that I could buy a brand new one spec'd the same for a thousand less. So is that high of a resale normal?
Thank-you all in advance.
Can't wait to drive it home.

Well, I was in the same situation a few months ago and was actually looking at Cooper S models. But this decision is mostly depending on how antsy you are to get the car. I think if you ordered a new one right now you'd be close to get an 06.
Here is what I did in early May. While I appreciated the seemingly high resale value as a future owner, I decided that I'd rather have a new 05 car with full warranty, no miles and the exact specs I had in mind. So now 2 months later I have my very own brand new ps MCS instead and I love it.
Hope this helps.

United-States It is common...

...to see the 'used' Minis going for the same price or a more than similarly spec'd new ones. The reason being, its there..., it does not have to be ordered..., and you want it.

You have 'til 2007 or 36k miles on the free maintenance, and until 2008 or 50k miles on the Mini factory warranty. So who ever told you you have 'no warranty' is quite wrong...

Don't regret getting the '04... the headlights (if Xenons) are much cooler looking (IMHO)... and the front and rear (lower) air dams are also much much cooler looking (IMHO).

It is not how fast you go, but how you go.

If you order a new one, how long have you got to wait? If it's not that long, I'd order a new one if there is no real financial saving. You never really know how the first owner treated the car, especially if they knew they weren't keeping it for long.

That's good to hear on the warranty. Real good.
I just don't think that they know anything about the car.
I don't mind that fact that its used. Actually if it wasn't I wouldn't be able to afford it.
So, yeah I'm going with it. (I'M IN LOVE!)
I should have it by the end of this week.

thanks everyone.

I have just bought a "nearly new" Mini Cooper (SEE PICCY) - I searched the Mini site Cherished forum. Loads to choose from. I found a dealer demonstrator - loaded - 4k - saved a bit from new, waiting months is a real nighmare, and anyway there are some real nice "nearly new" ones around. check them out. Came with 2.5 years warranty left and TLC and I even got some freebies.
