Mini Cooper s 2002 any problems or faults

Hi I just got my mini cooper s 2002 model.
I still got warranty till feb next year so that great.
Iam just going over my car and i wonted to know if anyone had any issues with that model or anything i should be looking out for or recall.
i found a few little things that i have to get fixed.
Also
My power steering makes a winding noise when i turn the wheel, does not sound right.
anyone come across this.
Iam going to book the car in soon, so i like them to fix anything i find,

Hi and welcome to MINI2

Sorry you haven't had any gems of wisdom.

I reckon that by now any problems with a 2002 MINI will have been sorted out.

The steering whine is normal and forms part of the MINI character so don't worry about that (just enjoy it )

I think the problems with early MNIs included:-

Steering clunks - the cure for this was a new steering column and it would be obvious if yours had this problem.

Cracking windscreens - again, if it hasn't cracked by now it probably won't.

The boot lid latch was a bit unreliable on some early ones.

No problems with the engine.

Occasional gearbox problems.

Hope that helps a bit.

You will get heaps more responses... there are a number of issues with the 02 models. There are a number of people that have had no issues though...

Do you have rattles?

yeah there are rattles and the guys at BMW said they are not coved under warranty.
I cant see any other issues, but if they are any i like to know before my warranty runs out.

Everytime I drive my MINI I end up with this huge grin on my face, the dealer said there was nothing they could do about it and that it's not covered under warranty.

yeh 5 get this too, but only at slow speed... sort of sounds like something's rubbing against the steering column... but at normal speed can't hear it. getting it checked out next friday. will let u know what bmw say

But i took the new 2005 mini coopers for a test drive and there was no noise from the power steering, thats why i got wondering. i know you say its normal, just don't sound right

Also some one told me that the 2002 model has a 2 piece dash and makes noises, they sorted it out with newer models and if you complain they will fix it under warranty.
