which tires did you choose for 17" wheels"

I am going to be spec'ing my Cooper S next week and plan to get the 17" wheels. I was just curious as to what those of you who have driven both the "summer" and all-season tires that of them in relationship to each other. Where I live I could easily get away with running the summer tires year round but if the all-season offer longer tread and a more quiet ride I'd be willing to go that way.

So if you have driven on both or just have an opinion on either one I'd appreciate any input.
