Smile Run Reminiscing

I got to thinking earlier about all the runs i've been on in the 2.5 years since i got my first mini. My first one was within a couple of months of taking delivery & i've not looked back since. I've been to some fantastic, beautiful places & driven on roads i never even knew existed, as well as met some wonderful people & had some great laughs along the way. I can still remember turning up for my first ever run - the first Heartbeat - & not knowing a single soul. Particular highlights:
  • that first heartbeat run - a perfect spring day & laura launching her car into a field
  • my first dales run & so many people turning up
  • the motor show - still unbeaten UK record of over 140 cars & the mini compound drawing as many crowds as some of the stalls inside
  • the coast to coast run. just a great weekend
So far (& as much as i can remember) i've been on 19 runs which averages out at one every couple of months & i've organised 6 myself

Not as many as you Hat....

Done some cracking runs... the original Heartbeat, your Dales and Tan hill runs, Rocks and Radars, Cullen twice... One day we'll get down to a cotswolds or even a M2M...

Memories ?, Brushys Airbag incident, team Rakey in the spiderman and nuns Hats, Dunc and his ice cream eating at Cullen, Blakey Ridge ....

My first run was nearly two years ago which was SCNM Wessex 2 or 3...the one in Stockbridge anyway. I must say there was a very warm welcome. Probably not the best weather to have my first run in, but certainly was fun. Trying to keep up with Max in his GGR200 with our Mini One was interesting. But hey the One was no where near standard so went pretty well. Fantastic roads and slippery leaves made for a great run.

Since then ive lost count of the number of runs ive been on and how many ive organised. Think ive organsied 3 now... I dunno... too long ago Must be almost time again for me to sort another one or wait for winter nights again.

Those were the days

Think I still hold the award of first person to spin there car out while leading a mini run. Dont think too many people noticed though except Arron But lesson learned sometimes new brakes arent a good thing on the rear of the car.

3 Mini runs in the next week I think... YAHEY!

I'm a run veteran now, counting last years Stelvio Run among those I attended!

Organised three so far, with my next being the very excellent Ridgeway Meet '05 on Sept 11th.

The big one though is the Arctic Circle Run scheduled for June 2007 - that will be an epic.

BTW, the ACR will be starting from Newcastle, so no excuse for those north of Watford Gap.

Good thread

First was Peak's Run 2 and that was probably one of the best as it was the first - only 25 or so cars but we had such a laugh, and the first time I met other MINI2ers - especially DC, MartinL and Deej.

hooked thereafter - loved Heartbeat and Morecambe runs, the MMMs are just a chaotic hoot, and I enjoy my own but in a different way .......... and hte Motorshow for a WOW factor with so many MINIs in one place

Total - not sure exactly - around about the 20 mark I think

my first meet up was Rockingham, back in 2003, to watch the JCC

But since then, must be about another 20 to add on the list, but Mizen to Malin is my favourite run, many happy memories, meeting certain people, but also the roads and the social side of it
