Offline | Yep, it fits all MINI's. Got a BMW version, as well. Shipping is free in the States, but I charge $5.00 to Air Mail to the UK. I need to put something on my site, to reflect that; on my list of "things to do"! Thanks! |

| MINI2 Master | Notice in the pic I took that the camera is to the left of the knob. As a result, the R looks to be curved down the side, which it is!. From the right side, the 5 and 6 are curved down the side. From straight on, the numbers are perfect. It's a function of having a two dimensional shape (the numbers and gear pattern) projected onto a three dimensional object (the sphere of the knob). It looks and works great, and everything is where it should be. ![]() |

Offline | Re: Re: Doug, Yes, I've been wanting to pursue a parking brake handle for some time, but just haven't gotten around to it. (Correct assumption about having a "real" job. I'm usually out here in the shop day and night, keeping the industrial customers happy.) Also, I've seen some nice-looking ones from another after-market parts vendor, and I know that I wouldn't be able to compete very well against their prices. I'm still planning to look into it, though. |

| MINI2 Senior Derelict | Actually, not to dive off topic too much, Titanium 6/6/2 from what I've heard, because it's hard to work with becomes very expensive. Don't know if it's up there with 24k gold but still. However all I know is that my ring will still look new 25 years from now and so would a Titanium shift knob. Jewlers don't usually use 24k gold for rings, it's too soft. ![]() Paul |

Offline | Sorry to push us even more off topic. The 24k gold in my ring went through a process where it was "annealed" (I'm not to sure about the spelling here) that made it "harder" that a solid gold ring would orginarily be. Still easier to scratch than a 14k gold ring, much less a Titanium ring, the color is really beautiful though. I must fess up that as much as I love the MINI, I don't think I will be outfitting it with a solid gold gearshift knob ![]() ![]() |

Offline | Sure! I've been doing quite a bit of that. The same charge as for engraving a new knob ($20.00), + $5.00 for postage, will cover it. E-mail me for info on another option. whamac@msn.com Thanks! |

| MINI2 Senior Derelict | Come on, get the 24k knob. You know you want it and get gold tints and trade your MINI in for the gold colour. We'll call you gold finger or gold member, your preference. All joking aside I'd like something finished in a sort of anthracite colour. Anyone familiar with any metals that would fall into that colour, not Titanium, too expensive, we've already discussed that. Iron would be too dark and would rust. Anyone have any other suggestions? Offline | Cape Cod MINI, Fantastic knob! Great idea! The more I see these knobs the more I'm thinking of getting one. Doug, Can your engraver go all the way around the sphere or does the design have to stay in the upper hemisphere? Offline | Actually, I'm the engraver. Also, order-taker, programmer, machinist, shipper, billing dept., janitor, you get the idea! But to answer your question, I do have to stay in the upper hemisphere. I can machine close to 1 3/4" wide on a 2" diameter ball, before the cutter begins to get too close to the "edge", so you can use that as some kind of limit to the engraving design. I use a 3-axis CNC milling machine and an off-line programming system. Unfortunately, I'm not set up to do the fancy 4th-axis stuff, where the workpiece can be rotated while being machined, though that WOULD open up lots of new possibilities! |

Offline | I can't remember who asked earlier about the "anthracite-looking" metal. I believe nickel silver would do the trick. You may have to process it a bit to darken it and then coat it with a _____-proof material, but it can be quite a hard substance. -Zach 2MINI4U Full-body LY 2003 S, M/F wheel, h/k, Sport, Cold, Power T on antenna. |
