Offline | I recently received my custom Whalen knob. After keeping it on my desk for a few days (it really is a piece of modern sculpture) I decided to fit it. After reading numerous posts about the problems with removing the stock knob I was prepared for a "MINI" tug of war. Much to my surprize the stock knob popped off with little effort! I used the technique of placing my knees under my hands and gently pushing up. It makes me wonder if the stock knob would have eventually popped off during spirited shifting. Any way, I'm another Whalen convert. It really does improve shifting making it a real treat! I went for the polished/brushed option. The brushed finish has a great tactile feel. It's rare to find a product with such craftsmanship. I've never heard of anyone who's been dissatisfied with the Whalen knob. After receiving mine I can see why! Thanks Doug. Ken Benner |

Offline | The only thing that I'm not happy about is that according to Doug, there will be no more group discounts simply because he made some other wholesale arrangement with another company. I'm not sure how\why that affects our group discount, but it certainly makes it harder to order one as it's a straight $150 us for most of us! oh well, from what everyone else reports, despite the steep price, and no more discounts I'm sure many of us will still get the knob... |

Offline | I love my Whalen Knob. Who doesn't? But now that I have it I am aware of how much lateral play I have in each and every gear, and likely, before, I just wasn't aware. I have about 2 inches of movement, when it is in gear, and more when it isn't. Is two inches normal? Thanks for setting me straight. Well, Art is Art, isn't it? Still, on the other hand, water is water! And East is East and West is West and if you take cranberries and stew them like applesauce they taste much more like prunes than rhubarb does. - Groucho Marx, "Animal Crackers" |

Offline | Hey Dinlo, I've been in touch with Doug, and he will be waiting a bit to get more response from the NorCal members for the discount... am I the first to be asking about the discount? It will be great to join NorCal and to get the discount but not if it means waiting weeks... hope not. Ivan |

| MINI2 Master / Moderator | No program Ivan, first I want to say Welcome :] You are the first norcal member who do business with Doug. And if you join us now, just go to paypal and pay the 6 months membership fee for $12 + processing fee. I'm not sure how much, but you can send us $15, we will send you a windows sticker(clean film) and a temp membership card. Once you send the money I will e-mail you your membership number. Then you can start get discount from our sponsors. Also we was thinking to ask Doug to engrave a small "NorCal MINIs" on the shift knob to distinguish our member, but I'm not sure does everyone will like to have the club name on the knob, but since you are the first member to ask, do you like that? If not, we need to come up a way for Doug to distinguish the member. May be you can help us to come up a way to help Doug. ![]() |

Offline | it was not clear to me about the membership... so basically I'll be paying $30 anual fee but would be saving $20 from the knob? I'm not sure what that buys me... Hate to nag but I thought this was a "free" membership (like here at mini2.com), or at least a bit cheaper... considering that I'm all the way from the east coast, I'm not sure what else I would get by being a member... In any case whether I join or not, I'd rather not put the engraving on the knob... as I already have a pattern in mind. Ivan |
