So if my maths are correct, that works out at £479.03 for both kits fitted including VAT.

Very good price for a brake kit.

Are there any pre-requistites? Or will the kit fit any MINI?

The kit will fit any Mini as they are standard sized rotors.

Out of interest what is the best way to change to DOT5.1 fluid.

Would you drain all the DOT4 out by unscrewing each bleed nipple and pumping the brake pedal until all has gone and then add the DOT5.1 and rebleed? Or would this introduce air locks in the system?

It was acceptable in the 80's

It's nice if they're different colors than you can see the fluid change.

They are compatible fluid types but I'd still make sure I went through 2 bleed cycles to make sure you have cleared the old fluid.

ATE Super Blue and TYP 200 or the same fluid but a different color so it makes alternating bleed cycles easier.

Hi Obe, I think freezing discs in liquid Nitrogen or Helium although effectivly hardening them (which will make them last longer) may reduce the friction ? Its the wearing of the disc as well as the pad that gives the abrasive pads like DS3000 & Black Hawk incredible (though messy ) stopping power.
Steve tried some on a Honda a while ago and said he felt like the discs were made of glass.
I personally havn't tried it, I know its a popular treatment for many things from gun barrels to trombones on your side of the pond.
BTW Syphon the reservoir almost to the bottom, refill with 5.1, then bleed through.
Best Regards Roland GTT

Cheers Roland,

I've asked the question a number of times before but no one has ever actually given me a method of how to do it, only that you should mix the fluids as little as possible as it reduces the effectiveness of it.

It was acceptable in the 80's

Ok guys, we have all 3 different pads in stock now to complete tests on the 'level 2' Spiroslot Discs & Pads Package. As mentioned earlier this uses top level competition pads in the front. We are looking for maximum braking power combined with greatest resistance to fade & fluid boil. At the same time it needs to be squeel free (for most of the time anyway) ,and not damage wheels. If it creates a lot iof dust........ so be it.

They definitely take some work to bed in but once mine were done they worked very well.
I was a tough to tell call though since I also changed to harder track pads at the same time.

Once warmed up they work excellent

Got my new disc's and pads fitted yesterday from GTT.

Front pads are level 2 track/road use and rears are kevlar pads. Is very strange when you first drive from cold as you don't get as much braking compared to the stock ones. Once warmed up pads are great. Can't wait to try these out on a track which they were designed for.

Next step is to get the GTT 220 kit.

Thanks Roland.

Regards,
John

Will Spiroslot pads work with OEM discs?

Hi Roland,

Many thanks for the fantastic job you did on my gearbox - gear changes are now much smoother and I'm actually getting much better mileage out of a tank of petrol too!

On the topic of brakes... my brake pad wear indicator has just come on and I'm not too keen on sending any more money BMW's way. However, due to various financial drains right now (moving house, double rent, new tyres, etc, etc...) I'm not yet able to upgrade to the full Spiroslot system just yet.

I think there's still a bit of life left in the OEM discs, so will the Spiroslot Uprated Pads work in conjunction with the OEM discs? If so, how much are the pads on their own? Then later, when I'm more solvent, I can move up to the full Spiroslot braking system.

Also , do you think I'll be able to last until the end of the month with normal commuting on my original pads? I'm changing insurers then - and am not keen to attempt an upgrade of the pads with MINI COVER (UK Insurance Ltd).

All the best,
Andrew.

hi Andrew, you can use our pads on the stock discs ,a front set is £39+vat. You shouldnt then reuse part worn pads on new discs that you buy later though. If you can afford it fit the disc & pads as a set. Normally the discs get pretty worn particularly on the inboard face.

Thanks Roland,

So - buying just the pads now will be more expensive in the long run, as I'll have to buy pads again in summer. It's just the full kit is a bit of a stretch right now.

Hmmm... I'll have to consult the other half on this one. I'll get back to you soon.

All the best,
Andrew.

I consulted the other half - and managed to convince her that I would be upgrading to the full Spiroslots eventually... so it would be cheaper in the long term to go for the full kit now rather than pads now and pads + discs later.

I've just got off the phone with Roland and should have my new Spiroslot Braking System by the end of the week.

I think an expression of delight is in order 'Yahooooooooooooooooooo!'

All the best,
Andrew.

I think I got the Stages Ones - I actually didn't think to ask about stages. Hopefully "stage one" is the automatic choice? I'm in a MINI ONE, so probably don't need anything as extreme as a second stage. Maybe I should call Roland real quick just to ask...
*Calls Roland on the phone*

Yep, I'm on stage ones - all good.

All the best,
Andrew.

Had a hellish day at work today - but the end of the day about to get better.

My girlfriend sent me a text to say she's saving up a hug for me, and... there's a heavy package from GTT at home!!

Well, can't sit around here typing all night, I need to get home to admire my Spiroslots!

All the best,
Andrew.
