| MINI2 Newbie | GTT ECU Re-maps Your going to have to excuse my ignorance on this one, i don't really understand the mini engine enough! BUt i have heard that the stock map on older cars with 163bhp is not the best for performance or economy, running very rich and with retarded timing. Therefore im looking to improve the fuel consumption and get a little more power, however im not keen on pulleys etc, so would a remap be my best option, if so how much is it likely to cost? Cheers |

Offline | The standard map is actually pretty reasonable compared to some other manufacturers factory tune maps. On the S a remap often does not add very much at all in fuel economy or power without having some other modifications with it. There are people who have found that a 15% pulley and a good performance panel filter colder spark plugs and a "good" re-map has improved economy, but this is borderline often. I have had 15% pulley and intake and manifold/ehaust etc and my economy remains around the same as it was when was stock car...thats means poor LOL |

| I miss my MINI | Opps, I just noticed that this was in the GTT thread! My bad.... On that, Roland does do great work and will look at your MINI and make recommendations on what would be the best route for you. Generally Roland leans towards not messing with the ECU and has done a great job with the MINIs he has turned out. You wouldn't do any wrong by having a chat with him about it. Offline | Hi James, the stock MCS will gain noticably more with a remap than with a 'pullied' MCS. Because the car is designed to run on very low octane petrol,as long as you are prepared to use super unleaded only, a remap with more ignition advance will produce more power. However a remap designed for stock pulley could not be used if you were to change the pulley later. |

| MINI2 Newbie | Yes i would be looking to run it on either Tesco 99 or Shell V Power, I figured the standard map is designed for hot temps with low octane petrol, hence the richness to stop pre ignition, is there anything else you would recommend changing with the remap, like spark plugs, panel filter etc? I will eventually go down the route of a pulley but that will probably not be for a year or so, i don't want to do too much in one go as i tend to get bored easily!! |
