New GT Tuning Adjustable Cam Timing Sprocket ! + Pic.

Hi Guys, another brand new GTT product for you.
The GTT adjustable sprocket replaces the OE 'non adjustable' part allowing optimisation of the cam timing to enable maximum performance to be achieved with ANY cam.
As this part is removed anyway when a new cam is fitted it makes sense to fit this at the same time. Here are some instances of when adjustment will be needed.
1) The cam makers full lift for the inlet & exhaust may be specified as (say)
116 degrees,it is quite possible for this not to achieve best power for your car.As a general
rule plus or minus 4 deg. of adjustment will often yield better power. Generally speaking
retarded cam timing gives a little more high end torque and advanced cam timing a little more mid range. It does vary though depending on cam and engine, hence the importance of adjustability.
2) Cam chain stretch. The cam timing will retard as the cam chain stretchs (wears),even
one millimeter of stretch retards cam timing about 2 degrees!
3) Your '116 deg @ full lift' spec cam may not actually be 116 degrees,at nominal settings
it may achieve 114 ATDC on the inlet and 118 BTDC on the exhaust. It is not uncommon.

How do I set it?
You can either set set it to a nominal ' mid point of adjustment' position or to the manufacturers spec (eliminating grind errors or chain stretch error). Or for the last word
in power, on the Rollers:-
Start at midway, then work from there, doing a run at each setting.
Remember there is no desperate rush to set it on the rollers,if you start on nominal
it can be run like that for as long as you like.
I will add a picture later.
Regards Roland GT Tuning

I was wondering when this type of product would come out!

I wonder what the power gains (numbers) would be?

I don't see any vernier indications on it. How do you know what your changes are?
Dialing in cams on a small block Chevy was quite different than this so I'm a bit lost.

TIA

I think the hydraulic tappets are OK, if the revs were being increased to 8500rpm
then possibly solid adjusters may be justified,at the moment we have found them unnecessary. Has anyone on your side had problems ?
Obe.
There will be scribed lines at the 'nominal position'. If you set it on the rollers
or using drop clock& degree disc I would recommend a pair of corresponding centre punch marks once it is optimised. The adjustment range is plus/minus 5 deg at
the cam which is plus/minus 10 deg at the crank. It is not so importantant to know
what angle is correct, but to know you are at the correct angle,if you see what I mean.

Thanks. I was looking for at least a 0º tick but I get your point about set and test.

Nice

BTW they are £59+ vat exch,or £69+ vat outright. The centre adjuster ring is hard anodised
L168 (proper metal) !

Just wondering... would this product be a good option in combination with installing an ECU upgrade (e.g. Bluefin) on a MINI ONE to get the best timing (and thus engine efficiency and performance) possible? Or would you only really see substantial/noticeable benefits on the Cooper S?

All the best,
Andrew.

Hi Andrew, thanks for the enquiry. You may be confusing ignition timing (which is contolled by the ecu) with cam timing. This is controlled by the cam itself ,and with this GTT product ,also on the sprocket. The most common time to add this GTT product is in conjunction with a cam change. The good news is it is also for the One.
