GT Tuning New Intecooler thread + Pics!

Hi guys, rather than tangle with other offerings, here is a thread providing info &pics of the New 'GTT Intercooler c/w Diffuser.' Please feel free to ask questions,as I know the info on the site may be confusing at times. Included is a pic on the car. If you wonder how we get a bigger intercooler in than others do,its because we include a coilpack offset plate which moves the coil back about 15mm,therefore allowing our core to be around 20-25mm deeper (front to back) than other 'large ' top mount intercoolers. The plate is stealthy so hard to spot, yet easy to remove/refit. I tried to take a shot in through the scoop to show how our intercooler does not sit high at the front edge, (which would block out the incoming air). Unfortunately the photo was no good so youll have to take my word for it. If anything the top face of our intercooler actually sits about 3-5mm BELOW the lower edge of the scoop.

Hi Neil, 'initial fit' is one hour, however to change back for service is 10-15mins each way.

Is this a prototype IC?
The end tanks look assembled and I though these were milled units.
Nice looking welds BTW.

Thanks Obe, the elipses are milled from a solid billet (ie a brick of aluminium) & welded to the end tanks. We do this as is; (A) Far more precise ,ensuring no small airleaks (B) As is much stronger, preventing distortion under clamping & (C) as it allows us to machine a ten thou. lip all around the outer profile ,for additional security. Next time we mill some elipses I will take a picky of it being machined & post it up . No one else goes to this trouble, but I think is necessary & it does produce a very high quality product.

Thanks.
My mistake, I thought the whole tank was milled. Oops

Seems like a good idea to put this in a separate thread with a descriptive title...

United-Kingdom

i was looking at a grs intercooler along with your 210 conversion which i keep meaning to get booked in. what are the performance gains or + points of having your intercooler. sorry i am a bit new to engine internals so don't understand fully what benefits yours will have.
thanks

If all goes well soon to have a GTT 210bhp !!!!!

Well Max, not to sure where your coming from.... West Tuning have nothing to do with the GRS IC and I have nothing to do with West Tuning If you want to know the truth then the figures speak for themselves and GRS have the figures to prove it.... trying to be funny Max don't suite you....

Geoff, check the website or give me a ring if you need more info. BTW to make the core larger we have added extra tubes in parrellel, rather than lengthening the tubes, this gives more cooling AND less pressure drop at the same time. No top mount currently available
will even come close to this product. If you have another make & would like to try our
product please telephone me. As I say we could produce a smaller intercooler with brazed core and non CNC milled elipses if the demand is there at circa £299+vat.I even have some sample brazed cores here that we opted against during initial design.

sorry to drag up a old thread but......
roland in the pictures i see you have foam fitted to the intercooler,do you still fit this on your intercoolers or is it not needed.
great bit of kit by the way,car seems to have more torque and the exhaust note has changed.
and on another note.....
anyone thinking of getting this intercooler should really buy the snoot boots too as they fit so much better then the stock ones

Hi Lee!

I see the thread now! Looks in the pic that the foam at the back only raises it about 1MM? or does it seal better against the sound proofing on the bonnet?

Mine defiantly didnt have it

p.s since taking it and the air filter off I have lost 2-3psi of boost!!

Afternoon! Any pics? I tried it but I only ever ended up blocking the last row on the intercooler with foam.

Maybe if a strong foam was glued around the back to the same height as the sides and then spacers put in the intercooler tray/ducting in the bonnet to lower it a bit to make a better seal.

But then in all the testing I did there was never any problems with heat as the intercooler angled as it is will always trap air on each row and cool it. Obviously the better seal the more air thats forced down each row but even with a peak of 19psi I never had a problem.
