Talking Attn: Derrick and friends

Derrick (and others):

I finally got my MCS! yeah!!!!!!!!

and YES, I DID get the new steering wheel and pedals. I heard from dad u got the pedals too rite Derrick?!. they are nice arent they!?

the s/wheel is so much better than the 'old' one. much thicker and has a good thumb rest (important since this is a two-spoke wheel- so nowhere to rest ur fingers)

had done about 1000 km for the first week- just running in the engine, trying to keep under 4000 rpm.

the engine is now much smoother and not as "tight" as b4. I m still reluctant to rev over 5000 rpm. will wait till 2000 km first......

had the Sony MP-70 unit put in, a good improvment on sound, but the standard speakers are still crap.

the Hamann gear knob is certainly the best buy so far! the shift (i think) is sooooo much smoother. and it looks v nice!

Complaints:

1) not fast enough in the low rev range
2) brakes not good enough (really disappointed)
3) ABS is activated quite early???
4) ASC-T breaks in mid-corner, felt v strange as all power to the wheels seems to hv been lost- maybe i m not used to it
4) annoying rattle/noise from the back door hatch- hv to go back to dealer with this one.....

Derrick:
how are those Ferodo brake pads??? how much are they for the fronts?

are they for streets use?? ie, dont hv to warm them up....

My brakes is pretty bad. I hv followed the exact procedure to "bed" them in, i felt better after bedding in, but still, the pedals have to be squashed to really get any good stopping power.

Keep checking this thread as i will put some pics for u guys later!

Congrats, disdis.
Agree with your observation on 1, 2 and 4.
Tried almost everything to help on low rev. but it is still not quite up to expectation. But now from 2300rpm up, the torque is very linear even on my MC/CVT. And from 5500rpm, it is going crazy! You have to wait at least after 2000km before you do that. In my case, I rev it up to the redline a couple of times at 3000km and the next day I changed to new oil.
I am thinking about the brakes too. Have to ask Derrick on those Ferodo pads next time. And maybe stainless steel brake hose will help.
I am going to put on some sound deadening mat (Raammat) before I change speakers and hifi. Another 25lbs on the car

Congrats, disdis.

I'm now doing on me brakes. I've already changed the Ferodo brake pads for the front and ordered the Goodridge brakelines from GT Sports and the final step is change the rotor to drilled and grooved type. I think the best thing is to get AP calipers straight away. But it would be more than doubled in term of the cost. I'll give you the report later on.

I'm quite satified with the sound of Sebring muffler, but not the performance. You better get the Milltek.

I'll take my Cooper to upgrade the stereo next week. I think that shop is probably the best in town.

Derrick.

Congrats on the new wheels, disdis.

When are you going to meet us all to show it off? How about an early Sunday morning meet in the Dandenongs?

Keep pics coming, Eltel

derrick:

what stereo u planing to get?
my sony one looks good with the dash, and has mp3 func as well.

in terms of the sounds, i think all units are similar unless u change the speakers. the Alpine 7894 is my next choice, but since i hv a Sony CD stacker, thats why i bought the sony instead.

how much are those Ferodo pads??
If u change the discs, u may want to change the alloys just to show it off rite?!

etel:

sure thing! i hv seen u couple of times around Kew area in ur yellow MCS. nxt time i will flash my lights

pics soon to follow once i know how to reduce the size of the image.....

Car looks great, disdis! Have you got tinted windows on the car, does seem like so? On pic #4 the shadow from the tree casted checked flag like shadows which highly reminded me of the E36 M3 lightweight with the BMW Motorsport checkered flag as such

Derrick, how are you? I am curious to know what kind of stereo setup you will go with for your MCS. Look forward to an update

KarmaS, thats quite some imagination u've got.....

u are like me in a way, think about cars and nothing but cars everyday.... hehehe

and yes, i had the windows tinted the first thing i got my car. the Oz summer is a killer....

keep the comments rolling in!

i hv done 1300 km now, and i m reving to 5000 rpm now. the gear box and engine feels smoother. but the engine still sounds very rough, maybe that the price of having a single-cam small capacity engine??...

disdis, you are quite right as I am a big car enthusiast! Automobiles will probably be one of the last things on earth I'll ever get tired of.

Just curious as to what mods do you have in consideration?

Regards,
Karman

disdis,

The Ferodo pad cost HK$1,000. What are you going to do on your vehicle first?

BTW, tell your dad not come back to HK now, you know what I mean by this.

Derrick.

not thinking of any mods at the moment (I just got my car!).
possible start doing something mid-year.

first priority is to improve my driving skills first!! hehehe... not much point hving a 200 bhp car if u cannot drive it (safely) at its limit all the time rite?

will be going to couple of advance high performance driving course to learn from other experts and get into some track driving for fun.... (quite cheap to do it here in Oz)

All the mod, eg. exhaust and air intake, is likely to hurt the low-rev power. so still puzzled with what to do to improve the power in ALL rev-band.

here's a list of possible mods:
Exhaust- more sound than anything.... (Milltek or Remus)
intake- already got K&N replacemt panel- to minimise lost of low rev power
Lower springs- Eibachs (of course!)
brake pads- Ferodo?
ECU- most likely Wetterauer chip, but problem with warrentee.
Sparke cables- maybe

as u can see, nothing over-the-top, but hopeful with improved driving skills i can take down an amateur driven std Boxster on a track...

disdis, I agree. The best mod to any car is the one to the driver, think of it as an software upgrade!

Even better if track sessions are priced reasonably as well as that's the only place to really test the limits of driver and machine. Hope you have fun!
