Yellow Cooper Oil Change in HK Island??

Dear folks,

Did anyone try the oil change at HK Island side? Any good recommendation in Tai Hang or Happy Valley??

I did my first service at 6,000km and I have reached 12,000km now. Should I do another one? I have called BMW today and they suggested to do it only once a year. Any comment out there?

Many thanks!

Ricky

I'd do it every 6k/8k, regardless of the time.

I suggest to do it every quarter or every 5000km, whichever comes first. I changed in NT mainly. So can't recommend any in HK side. But a lot of the petrol stations that are equipped with the oil change facilities can do the job for about $100-$150. Of course you bring along your filter (available from BMW or Mongkok) and your choice of oil.

Thanks guys! I would like to give a try at the Esso gas station at Sing Wo Road and they claimed that they did oil change for MC before.

Should I bring my own oil filter??? Is it very unique for MC and I can't find it at the gas station?

Also, any lube oil recommendation?

Thanks! Ricky

You can simply get the filter from BMW in Tokwawan or Wah Luen in Hak Po Street. It costs $65 in BMW and $50 in Wah Luen. As for oil grade, I use Golden Mobil 1. I just can say that its not bad.

Is it a difficult job for oil change to a mini? I heard stories about how hard it was to remove the oil filter and the tools required for the screw etc! I would love to know which shop can carry out this job smoothly so that I can have it done on a more regular basis (every 5KM).

Thanks Kenny! Will try it out probably after my 1st year warranty expired as I think I could get a free oil change from BMW.

How is the new AC spring doing in your car?

Even there are more MC (and MCS) on the road now, oil filter for it is still not a common item. It'd better you bring your own to the oil change. Removing the oil filter is also quite different from most other cars. You need a 36mm socket (or spanner) for taking out the filter holder. As the gas stations do the oil change more than most of the garages, they should have better experience. And given there are so many Mini in Happy Valley area, I am not surprised they have lots of experience in the Shing Wo Road station.
I have tried Redline, Valvoline SynPower and Gold Mobile 1. All of them are quite good, with Valvoline most cost effective (HK$330 for 5 litre).
Here is a list that was posted on Mini2 forum sometime ago:

Have you guys tried changing oil yourself? It's actually very easy. I changed mine myself and took about 40 mins.

It's not how difficult that matters as it is very easy. Just unscrew underneath the car using a 13mm spanner. And changing the filer using a 36mm socket head.
But it's all that trouble of finding a pan (and store it somewhere in the house!) to hold the oil and properly dispose the changed oil. Besides, spending the extra $100 helps the local economy too!

I do want to chnage the oil my self, but I cannot find a spot to change it, casue Hong Kong is too small, and there is no drive way or anything like it. If I change my oil in my parking lot, My super will kill me. Also, it is easy to find a gas station to change oil, the only matter is which one is good and skillful.

If you really have to pay someone, they dont need to be that good. Its really easy. The used oil you can let it pour into a large coke bottle or container.

Note: do not screw the oil release cap on too hard. the take is made of aluminium and you can damage the screw.
