Remote Control Auto Window Up Module

Has anyone used the Remote Control Auto Window Up Module? If so how as it to install, can you post a copy of the instructions so we can see if they are easy to understand, and does it work as advertised?

It sounds like a great little add on.

Steve.

I have one fitted, but not by me, Mickeythemini did mine, Uk based so a bit far for you to travel , some one will probably have a guide though.

Very useful gadget, well worth the money, i added the folding wing mirrors as well

Thanks for the info. I'd love to hear also about the folding mirrors. Is that something you can do yourself, how long does it take.

Happy New Year a few days early.

Note that there are now two different remote-window-close devices on the market; MikeyTheMINIs one requires a factory alarm.

Mikey did that for me as well

Even charged me less coz the wiring for the windows and the mirror are in the smae place, so wasn't as much work for him to do.

Hows that for service

I think it is something that a "normal" person can do, but I'm not normal and would have shorted out the cars electrics

Yes have the factory alarm. I wish Mini would add these features because it seems they are something in demand.

Ian, can you please point me towards the other one? I'm interested... didn't realise another one was out.

Cheers,

Kevin

Kevin,
You mean the one that isn't from MikeyTheMINI ...
It's here, available from OutMotoring - OutMotoring is run by Aaron, another "good guy" (like Mikey).
Here is a link to the PDF instructions - they put me off a bit! And this post on NAM is from the designer and shows the "deep" wiring needed. He was (a year or more ago) active on MINI2 and there once was a thread discussing his product but it got "censored" and vanished ...

(and this is the one from Mikey for anyone that does not know already)

Thanks a lot Ian, will have to look into it. Hope you had a great new year .

I would personally prefer to support Mikey, but unfortunately I don't have the factory alarm required.

Cheers

We are still four hours away from New Year here on the USA east coast
Hope yours is already good, half way through your first day of 2006

BTW: Maybe PM or email Mikey; I saw somewhere he was asked about doing a non-factory-alarm version and he seemed to say it might be possible ...

The KPT functionality is basically quite simple - I went along the "how to design it" path enough (in my head) to understand the idea.
If you turn and hold the key in the door to "lock", the windows will close. So basically you just need a circuit to activate that same key-held-in-lock switch ...
The KPT also monitors the door lock/unlock solenoid, so it can see when you quickly do the remote button presses.

I also did a fair bit of looking into designing something like the KP circuit - I've just never had time to really take it further than the concept stage. Quite a simple concept as you say, its just a matter of implimenting the circuit to emulate the "key-lock-hold". I like Kevins way of monitoring the keypress (Open-close press), for the simple fact that sometimes you want to leave the windows open but lock the car... very smart way of doing it!

I've just ordered one of these, with the summer heat around here I drive all the time with the windows / sunroof wide open, so it'll come quite in handy .

Good - I'll be very interested to hear your comments about installation once it arrives with you ...
