Offline | Replacing the factory radio/cassette (boost) Hi all, New to this forum as I've only had my Cooper S for a couple of weeks but so far so good .Mine was a Cherished Mini and had a radio/cassette (boost) with CD changer in the boot. My car is a 54 plate and I've just bought a factory (Alpine) Radio/CD head unit brand new off ebay. My only concerns is that the date of manufacture says '01 December IW' the model is CD53 R50. Does this mean it was manufactured in 2001? If so, will the connections fit a late 2004 Mini?. Also are there any differences between what should have been in mine and what I've just got. Lastly, I'd like to put an Ice Link connection for my iPod in but am thinking about the Lite version as I want to keep the CD changer. Will this work with this head unit? If so, is it easy to fit. Thanks for any replies received. Glyn. |

Offline | You are correct about the date of manufacture - December 2001. The boost connector has never changed, so any boost radio cassette, CD or MD can be swapped for any other. Not sure about the Ice Link, but I doubt it will work. You need to speak to mikeythemini. http://www.newministuff.com/new/index.php |

Offline | Thanks, Had a feeling that this would be the answer. Looks like it could be either the Ice Link Plus and lose the CD changer or Ice Link FM modulator. Has anyone used the Ice Link FM modulator and is it any good? Glyn. |

Offline | Sorry to be the bearer of bad news Glyn. As you discovered, the Alpine CD specification was updated for the 2003 model year, although cosmetically it looked identical. So the expensive solution would be to purchase a later Alpine CD, or the replacement Siemens built Radio Business CD (more features - sounds worse to my ears). |
