Offline | Speaker upgrade from newministuff - anyone tried? Morning all, Looking to get a speaker upgrade for my factory CD boost. In my previous car i had a 12" sub, but I don't really want to jeopardise my already limited MINI boot space with that! I also dont want to go down the Dynamat route to stop the number plate rattling ![]() I need something which still gives a nice heart rattling bass sound, but without the need for rattles + a big bass box. Have been looking at the ice options available on newministuff.com. The first one in the list: 'Rear Sub woofers 6*9 200w inc amp' Has anyone bought these and can report on their performance? Anyone bought any other speakers from them on the list which are any good? Cheers everyone. Motor on, Aslan |

Offline | what you are looking at is simply a set of 6x9's with an amp to power them. Calling them sub woofers is not really fair as they are literally 6x9 size whereas subs tend to start at 10" and upwards. If you are looking for heavy 'heart thumping' base, these are not for you. they will give you a 'louder' sound than the standard setup especially with them being amplified but if it is base you want then a sub you must have! 6x9's will do a fairly decent job of making your system louder but for quality you want components and for base you want a sub. Your choice! Also, you may come across 'free air' subs which claim they can be mounted on a parcel shelf and sound the same as a boxed sub - they cant. Anymore advice I can help with, I'd be more than happy to Dave |

| Some have THICK skins!!!! | Ive got a full fit from Mikey - and both he and the install are excellent Mine was done 2 years ago now so i think there is a newer front speaker available but the sound is amazing. I have new speakers all round with 2 amps and Sony HU. Of course the amps dp add to the sound but the bass the speakers can handle is much beter than boost and HK combined. I say go to Mikey - you wont do better for your MINI ![]() Paul |

| "I'm kind of a big deal" | Some companies, Kenwood being one, DO produce a 6x9 that is purely a woofer ie it is not a coaxial speaker and has no tweeter. And they do produce decent bass especially when the panel it is mounted on is soundproofed. When you think about it, a pair of 6x9's in terms of suface area at least will shift about as much air as a 10" sub if they have beefy enough magnets to drive them. Some companies, using the correct enclosure can make an 8" woofer kick the ass of a 12" one mounted in a standard wedge box. Size ain't everything. When it comes to speakers anyway.... |

The 6x9's won't go noticeably any lower than the Focals so I don't use them as subs I use them as ordinary rear speakers to bolster the mid-bass and the lack of high frequencies makes sure then don't interfere with the fronts imaging. I also have the benefit of my Blaupunkt being able to analyse my interior so I can see where there are holes or peaks in the sound. Then the Blaupunkt enables me to vary the amount of boost or cut and vary the frequency. The result is way better than standard, better than HK (well in my opinion )but in no way comparable with a system with a decent sub (10 or 12) in a box. If I was buying again I wouldn't bother with the rear speakers but put all my money in some 6.5 components up front and a quality amp to drive them. I'm using Genesis amplification by the way. ![]() Some people are like a Slinky ........ not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you shove them down the stairs |

Offline | See http://www.blaupunkt.co.uk/7644820310_main.asp or http://www.bluespot.co.uk/stock/bremen.asp for details. The Blaupunkt will adjust the equaliser as you go along but it has it's limitations. Most noise is low frequency and although it can cover this you become aware of what is happening because of the overall level of the bass. You can adjust the level from a mild increase to a wild increase. I have mine set on the mildest which doesn't always cover the increase in noise as you go faster but neither does it overwhelm with the bass. Also I have the iPod interface fitted which works a treat but the iPod volume is low. So you turn up the volume but later forget and swap to the radio and bang you get a sonic boom worthy of Concorde. I also can't get the Navigation blend to work. Overall though I love it, not as good as a pro RTA but a lot more fun doing it yourself. Send Miss Moneypenny £340 and she will ask Q to send you one in a plain wrapper marked Import/Exports .![]() Some people are like a Slinky ........ not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you shove them down the stairs |
