Offline | HK rear speaker distortion I have a 2005 MCS convertible with the HK stereo. There is an intolerable distortion with certain bass fequencies in the rear speakers. To my untrained ears, this sounds more like a resonance problem than actual speaker distortion, and it doesn't take a lot of volume to bring it out if the source is bass heavy. Setting the head unit to either "spatial" or "festival" mode definitely helps, but I prefer the stereo image with the "HK mini" mode. I understand that in "spatial" and "festival" modes the rear speakers are used as full range drivers and in the other modes the rears are used as woofers only. I am otherwise happy with the HK system, but I would really like to fix this problem. There have been a few other threads addressing this issue, but I haven't been able to find any post indicating a fix. Has anyone experienced this and come up with a solution? My inclination is to pull out the rear trim panels and install some Dynamat, but I'd sure like some indication that this is going to work before going to the trouble. |

| MINI2 Master | Usually when I hear bass problems back there it is caused by the seat belt buckles vibrating against the plastic interior trim. Dealing with that gets rid of the problem. Only today I belted both rear seatbelts in from the driver's seat without undoing my own seatbelt because they were driving me nuts. I forgot my wife and kids borrowed the car earlier in the week and I'd forgotten to adjust the belts afterward. Harry MINI Cooper Cabrio: now the car with go cart handling really feels like an open go cart! Offline | Fixed rattle from heavy bass Hi all, I had the same issue with distorted bass rattling the whole interior with my HK system. My Mini garage very kindly put some packing inside the door panels and around the rear speakers and the distortion is gone to stiffen things - it definitely did work. I've never seen inside the doors so I'm not sure what they did exactly, but the rattle is gone. cheers |
