| CVT is gone, S hole now.. | If I had a device that needed 12 VDC @110mA and it was in the boot how would I power it safely? As in not drain the batteries, the device is an 'always on' device. It will be mounted either on the hatchback or if thats to difficult in the bumper where the park distance would be. Basicly I am working to get the AUX video working on the Navi System and have a reverse camera. Kind of like navtv.com has but cheaper. I am a novice at this so be gental. Offline | Does the power port in the trunk work? There is supposed to be a power port in the hatchback. Open it up, look to the left (black cover) and pull it off. Should reveal a power port. I hope that helps. |

Offline | "Always on" may not be compatible with the MINI's ECU. If I remember correctly, on some of the early MINI's in the UK, there was a problem wiht the audio unit apparently not shutting itself off, causing the ECU to constantly be woken up. Which in turn caused the battery to become dead (go flat). | CVT is gone, S hole now.. | So how are dose everyone power there giant ICE Installs? Those huge systems in the back have to draw power from somewhere? Are they taping into the wireing harness? -Technomage turned due to CVT problemsNow Stylein in MCS CR/W All options except NAV and PDC. Garmin 2610 NAV. | Test thread infiltrator | No, we run a wire from the battery into the boot, under the upholstery and everything. This is much easier the in 'S'... It seems that whilst your requirements don't take much power, the rear power socket is only on with the ignition. Ignition 1 I think. Running a power cable through the car: http://www.mini2.com/forum/showthrea...&threadid=3723 Obviously, you may not need such a meaty cable ![]() Hope that helps, Dom |

| MINI2 Senior | Putting Two and Two together, if it is the CCD camera for reversing why not wire it in parallel to the reversing light! Does it need to powered all of the time? If it does then you have to accept that if the car is left for a long period, say at an airport the battery may go flat, eg: like any system with a car alarm. Depending on how complex you wanted to get you could have a small 12V battery in the rear that is kept charged while the car is running and then used to power the kit. So if it's battery goes flat it won't harm the car. |
