Smile Hello & Radio Questions

Hello,

Since Im new in this forum ill introduce myself ;

My name is Sjoerd (from the netherlands) and with 3 mates i run a webdesign company. About a month ago our four minis were deleverid (see picture). It drivers very good and im very happy with it. I have the red mini cooper with chili package.

Ago let's go to my question:

I have a standard radio boost in my mini. My main question is :

Is it possible to connect an amplifier to this radio (since there is an connection to a cd changer). Has somebody did this.

Is this is possible, could you tell me how to connect the amplifier to the accu and what's the maximum size of the speakers with can be build into [dont know the word in english] that thing behind my back-seat.

Hope you can help me & sorry for my bad english.

Grtz from the Netherlands,,

Sjoerd

Welcome ....

Yes this can all be done and many have done it already. There is loads of info here. This should give you chance to decside exactly what you want to do.

Using the standard head unit the amp needs to be able to accept speaker level inputs. Also cos the amp would draw a lot of power you will probably have to run a separate power feed.

The speakers in the doors are 5" compnents mounted in a pod. You can fit 6.5" speakers in there at a push. The speakers in the rear are standard 6x9's.

These are rated at 15Wrms so you will need to change them if you decide to amp.

Hope this helps

hmmm

I called MINI Netherlands, and somebody told me the Boost radio has no actual LINE-out.

It will be hard to connect an amp. i guess.

Is there another way to connect your amp? I want to maintain my orginal speakers and use the amp for one/two SONY Xplod subwoofers.

Exactly as I said above.

It is not hard to connect an amp. You need to find an amp that accepts high level (speaker) inputs. Then you use the speaker outputs from the head unit to drive the amp while also driving the factory speakers.

Personally, I don't think this is the best solution but it will work. Normally you would use the amp to drive replacement speakers and a sub etc.

Ok thanks for your help. But why do i need an amp that accepts high level speaker inputs? I want to use the amp for one or two subwoofers.

I fount an tuotorial in connecting the amp to my battery/accu so that should be doable.

Cos you need to get a signal in to the amp somehow and as you have said there are no line outs from the head unit only speaker (high level) outputs.

Go and have a chat with a ICE installer and I'm sure all will become clear. The documentation with the amp will cover this too.

Yep I found Dom's thread really useful too, Thanx Dom. Although I choose to use the grommet for the bonnet release cables to get through the bulkhead.
