What does anyone think about the people on EBAY that are selling BMW 6 disc cd changers for use in Minis? They say it's the same unit. Is it? What kind of installation would then be required? Are the boots prewired?

I've been bidding myself but not found any that sold for the amount I'm willing to pay.

As long as it lists compatibility with current production 3series cars it should work just fine, simply plug it in and play. I have seen offbrand changers sell for as little as $200, BMW/Alpine models with the magazines for as much as $450. The BMW/Alpine unit is probably the best bet for quality but sometimes they are missing the magazines you load cd's into, and they can be expensive to replace.

What I'd really like to get is a changer that can read MP3's.... both Sony and Kenwood make them but they don't plug in like a factory unit, they require FM modulators and I don't like those....

A mp3 player would be good considering I have thousands of them recorded onto cds right now...

just swapped my 5gig Ipod for a 10gig Ipod under warranty, paying the difference... and now they announce a 20gig Ipod with improvments and extra accessories at the same price I paid for the 10gig unit.

Allready warned CompUSA that I will be bringing mine back in to swap again as soon as they get the new ones in stock.

20 gigs of mp3's - it's almost hard to imagine....
